Is this pinched mantel disease?

A few days ago I noticed that my Maxima clam appeared to have lost some tissue at the edge of its mantel in a couple of areas. I assumed that maybe something in the tank was nibbling at the clam, but then I read about pinched mantel disease on this site.

The picture is poor quality, but I have circled the areas that appear affected. The one to the top is about 3/4" long and appears that the edge of the mantel is "nibbled" of. The other two areas are small notches.

Any ideas?

Looks ok to me. I've seen many clams that look similar, and yours looks healthy.

Now, if the clam starts pulling the mantle in to the shell in a few spots and those spots are pinched or puckered up and stays like that for days on end then I would worry but your clam looks fine and dandy as candy.

Freed. Thanks. I think in that case that the damaged areas are being caused by something nibbling at the mantle. Whatever that may be....I assume that the mantle can heal?

BTW, maybe you should start an LFS in your area...
