Is this RTN??

I came out of the bedroom this am and found one of my acros looking like this. Is there anything I can dip in, should I frag it, or just monitor it?

Yeah, thats bad. Frag what you can and cross your fingers. Check your parameters. A water change wiuld not be a bad idea. If that happened overnight, prognosis no bueno. GL!

Crap.

I actually noticed a little white yesterday when I was doing a 15g WC. Not a lot, so I didn't think much about it. Then I saw this.

I'll do a set of tests today just to be safe. Should I take it out and put it in the QT system? If this is RTN, can it spread to other acros?

I just did my tests....I usually do them the day after a water change anyway, in order to let the water mix completely.

pH= 7.8~8.0 (normal for me)
KH= 11 degrees hardness or 110 on the Nutrafin scale
Ca= 380~400 (a little low for me)
Phos= 0~.25 on the API kit. Closer to 0, barely registered. I really need a Hanna for this.
Nitrate= 0
Temp= 77

alk seems pretty high, your parameters dont seem terrible, but have they been steady?

If you alk was 7, then your last water change pulled it up to 11, that will cause some terrible issues.

My Alk was low last month ago, but it was an accidental drop. It's been fairly steady between 10 and 11 for a while.

OTOH, it IS true that my Birdsnests never really recovered from the Alk drop last month. That's why I was curious if this might be some kind of bacterial infection.

It doesn't really spread like a disease as far as I know, but the condition that triggers it may trigger it in other corals as well.

How long has the coral been in your tank?

First I would pull the coral out and put it in a white container with tank water. A clear one with a white background or paper under it would also work. Look at it very close up and with a magnifying glass if possible. Make sure you don't have any red bugs or other pests. You can gently blast the coral with a turkey baster. If there isn't then it is most likely rtn. I would frag the tips, but not to close to the white area. Dip them in iodine and glue to plugs.
