Is this salvageable?

Ok so my birdsnest which was part of a large rock of mushrooms, is not doing so well. It is plagued with algae. I have taken steps over the last month to correct my algae issues in the tank and it is much better with the exception on this coral.

I am also planning on running gfo soon. I am thinking I should break off the algae laden areas since it appears that those areas are now dead. Thoughts?

I cant tell you a definite answer, but I had a coral which I was just about to throw away because it was dead (lobophylia) after I got led lights it came back to life.

Maybe put it in a different spot and see what happens

Unfortunately moving it is not an option.

The parts of the birdsnest that have algae growing are dead. I would cut off all affected branches. Had the same issue once myself with a pink birdsnest that I left out of water to long when I drained the tank to catch fish. The dead branches grew algae which I cut off and coral is fine now and growing.
