I've got the jebo version of the seaclone, which is basically the same thing. It has overflowed countless times for no obvious reason. Getting skimmate of any kind is a total crapshoot. I have had it for over a year and still have to make adjustments to it to get it to do anything. It will probably put some microbubbles into the tank. And seaclone's aren't even all that cheap. Dr Foster & Smith has them for $69 and $79. The Coralife super skimmer 65 I mentioned is $75.
The CSS 65 has a better pump, that includes a needle wheel. That creates more and finer bubbles in the water and helps produce better skimmate. The collection cup's riser tube is very smooth acrylic. On my jebo (I assume the cup is the same on the seaclone) it is not as smooth. This causes friction that makes it hard for bubbles to get over the riser tube before popping. The CSS can be in sump or HOB. The seaclone can leak at the o-ring for the cup if you don't get it just right. The CSS has never leaked for me. Plus, the CSS actually works!
There are other good options too, I just have some experience with the CSS and I like it.
