Is this stretching normal?

My Aeon Flux zoos are always extended. There are two new heads forming. Is it normal for them to extend their tubes this far. They are about 2+" long. They have been like this for a month or so since I got them.

Thanks,

Trip

What kind of light are you running. Usually when they stretch like that, they are trying to get more light. Try putting them higher in your tank.

I have 4 x 65 watt PC. The tank is 24" deep. They are about 20" away from the light.

I have a 2 x 150 MH with 2 x 54 W light that I have been thinking about putting over the tank.

You need more light :P While watts per gallon might be on the border, to get enough light 20" down.... you need more W per individual bulb.

They are definitely starving for light.

They are about 10 - 12" from the surface of the water and about 20" from the actual bulb. They are not 20" below the water surface. It still sounds like I should put the MH fixture over the tank. This may be an adventure in itself.

ms..the two acitinic bulbs and one 10K daylight were put into service in August and one 10K was put into service in December.

I have a 2 x 150 watt MH with 2 x 54 watt. Should I put this on the tank and if so how to acclimate the corals to it. I have too much in my tank to reconfigure everything.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't add the MH's. The best way to acclimate new corals would be to put about 4 layers of screen over the tank. Then every one to two weeks, take one layer off. This is the best way IMO. Good luck.:)

If you add the MH make sure you do what AVALover said with the screens. I actually used 6 pieces and had the lights about 12" above the tank and moved one peice of screen a week...Then started to lower the lights one inch each week until they wer 6 inches from top of the water.

Your palys wont die from stretching, but they would probably appreciate more light, and yield faster growth rates under more light.
