Is this the start of coraline algae.

Can you please advise if this is the start of coraline algae. I've been scaling the coraline off the rocks with a razor and then I've blended all the bits in a blender and poured them into my tank. This was about two weeks ago. Now I've got stuff growing on my back wall and I'm guessing it's the start of coraline. Is it or do I need to scrape it all off. It wasn't there before.

could be green coraline or it could be just green algae.
getting coraline to grow is really just a matter of making sure your calcium, alkalinity and magnesium are sitting at the right levels, the lighting is strong enough and that you're patient.

Ok thanks for the reply I'll see how it looks after a few weeks, if it doesn't colour up I'll scrape it off

Coralline actually prefers lower light levels, I have found it grows the best in dim "bluer" tanks.
Definitely right about about keeping the big 3 up to NSW levels, keeping them stable helps too.

OP, post a better pic if you can or post it as an attachment. pics are awefully small

I'm using the phone app, the pics seem to be really bad quality, when I upload from app it says best quality but they don't seem to be, I've messed around with the settings but they're still the same. Any ideas from inside the app as I don't have access to a computer

Not sure if it's coralline, looks a lot more like algae, but you may regret dousing your tank with it when you have to scrape it off the glass 10x as often. If I could have a tank without coralline omg... dare I dream.

My coralline started green as well. Bits of purple started popping up. But most of it was green. Can you wipe it off with your finger? Coralline needs a sharp edge to be removed.

Just a quick update, there are purple spots appearing now, i haven't scraped any of it off so I'm going to leave it for a couple of months. I'm going to add some magnesium though like @sk8r suggested my tank is a little cloudy as I'd just fed it some frozen foods https://vimeo.com/181325287

It likely is. I've always had green first, which seems to be run over by purple later on.

I have the corraline coming in on my tank fast now. It's purple. But I did have what you have a month ago.
