Is this too much?

I just got 2 400 watt halide setups and was wondering if its to much for my tank, i have a 46 bow but not much rock, there in my canopy and id say my corals and such are about 2.5 feet away from the lights, i also dont have a back on my canopy so lights gets out there, just wondering if anyone has done this and how it worked out.

May have a heat issue, but with some fans I'd say you're ok. Lights are pretty far away from the water, then?

id say there about 14 inches away from the water, i have a nice fan blowing on them.

I would only run them for 5 hrs a day or put some stacks of screen on your tank so you don't burn them.
