Just looking for other opinions. Tank is 8'x2'x2'.
I dont hate it. I love the added space w/ drawers. Its tall though.

I used 2x10's for the base, cut out some squares for drawers, made some small boxes with bottoms and added roller slides.
It will be tricky to match it up to the stand.
Im not asking about the colors (yet)... just the height.
I dont mind stepping up to get in there, I try to keep my hands out anyway.
here is my macho tank pose just for a reference....

assuming your not 5' tall...that is a tall stand....

i am partial to taller stands..as i am 6'2" and hate bending down to look in a tank...

it is certainly going to be tough to ge to the bottom of the tank though...

Looks a little tall but it will be great for the spectators! Great for standing around with the buds and some frosty beverages.

Only down side is getting into it, but sounds like you have already considered that issue.

You could always bump those drawers out so shortys can stand on that, while you use it to get into your tank, and you can always stand back a foot and see directly in.

If most of the viewing is done while standing, I'd say it's fine. If it is done while sitting, I think it's too tall.

I think it's ok. Get a foot stoll for litte ones if that is an issue. I like the added space. Mine is about as tall I think.

I like the height. It makes is easier for viewing while standing, and we all deal with a lot bigger issues than trying to reach the bottom of the tank.

I can't imagine why you didn't provide us with the actual measurement of the height....

My tank is 40" off the floor and I'm very happy with that height. That is bar height and I designed the tank with bar in front.

I had some advantages that you may not, however.

1) The tank is acrylic, so I can crawl around on top of it in order to reach to the bottom.

2) I built a bar around it, which invites a standing viewing (as you lean on the bar), and provided bar stools. I can also stand on the bar itself in order to reach over the top edge. There is a catwalk of similar purpose on the back.

Its great. Good thinking on the pedestal drawers. Just put locks on them if you have kids, otherwise they will be used as steps.

I think its just fine I dislike looking down into tank keep it at eye level so that you can see all the action

exactly, if your standing most of the time you look at the tank then its just right.

If your sitting when you look at it..WAY to tall.

Me being a lazyass, I would go with a shorter stand so its eye level when im sitting.:D

great viewing height. I did mylast one @ 36" and was very happy with it and am thinking of doing the next one even higher.

This stand is 44" tall making the top of the tank right at 68"
I am about 5' 8".
The view is great standing and setting on a bar stool.
Its been in the planning stages for a few months. I am just so used to seeing it lower.
I didnt make any connections yet, its just setting on the base untill I decide its what I want. Lots of other stuff to do before the tank is ready.
If I would have used anything smaller than 2x10's I think it would make the drawers really shallow or take away strength.
Funny thing is.... I still cant get either of my large skimmers inside the stand do to the height limits. I wanted to have drawers AND gain height but doing both makes it way to tall.
I am considering making a completely different stand vs cutting or even replacing skimmers.
My OCD shows when it comes to something like this. Drives me nuts untill I get it right.

I have to admit I dont sit close to my tank, but the hight eliminates obstructions and makes the tank visable from all over the room, and on approach to the room , once in the room everyone typicaly walks over to look in tank they dont sit down to look in. I guess if my favorite chair did not have a clear veiw of the tank it would have possably been built differently Its not the biggest tank around but you still have to move back and forth to see whats going on inside . ;)
