Is this too tall?

The GF and I were talking tonight. I might be able to pull off putting this in the wall. The problem w/ that is I will take up space in our daughters B-room (her room is behind the wall the tank is on now).
The wall behind the tank has 2x6 studs and is setting on one heck of a footer.
It would allow me to move the tank over the couch and would free up sooo much floor space in that room.
Hmmmmmmm I have a B-day commin up. Maybe I could request some friends come over to help knock it out over a weekend.
I guess I need a new thread... "would ya do it?"

Ill post a picture of the room behind the wall tomorrow.

Im sure you already thought of this... but if you put it in wall, make it about couch height. Obviously a little higher, incase you get a new set of furniture thats taller.

Ahh! thats another problem solved. We have been looking for new furniture and have been limited because of the tank.
Yea, reclined reef watching would be more relaxing than a standing view.
I could also do an external overflow.

I am making my 220 stand 40" tall with 4" drawers. making it tottle 48" and 6" ledge around it. So I can put a 75gal tank sump under it. and with the hood it will go to the celing. I like the idea of putting bar stools in frount of it. good idea Untamed12.

Its done now

Its done now

Well I still needed a taller space inside the stand. Adding the base didnt accomplish my main goal and didnt like the way the stand was mated to the base.
It didnt seem super rigid and I wasnt happy with the original stand anyway so I went all out and just got what I wanted.

I tore the old 1x3 stand apart. It was a beautiful piece if I wanted to put a counter top on it and store pots and pans or some cerial but it wasnt very well designed for a 200 gallon aquarium.
(in my opinion)
I did keep the door section in tact.
I then went way overkill on building a 2x6 stand minus the front (I wanted to insert the door section there) making it just a few inches taller inside and I also built another base, but out of 2x8's.

It ends up as 47.5 inches tall and to the top of the tank is 71.5 inches.
When standing at the tank I am looking just above center.
I love it!
I got some extra oak for trim nice drawer faces, routered some stuff to add a little design, and tried to match stain as close as possible.
I spent more time w/ this stand than I did on 3 rooms of trim in my house :rolleye1:
couple things left to do...
I need to decide what to do w/ the inside of the drawers (light stain and seal em good proly)
I need to trim the new doors on the ends and add hinges.
I need a little more shower paneling for the bottom- then try to seal the seams in case of sump flood, leak or a spill
maybe another coat of stain and seal it up real good
add a very thin layer of foam to the top
