I got a Midas Blenny a month and a half ago. I don't have a QT so after acclimation he went straight in the tank. He was eating that night and completely out of his hiding spot within three days.
Anyway, this morning I noticed what I thought was Ich: slightly raised white spots near his hills and on his pectoral fins that did not come off at all when he swam or hid. I also had been noticing that he was swimming directly in the current of one of my power heads for a few days, which I know can be a sign. I have not observed any flashing and he's eating and swimming normally.
I thought that this was finally my comeuppance for not having a QT (I've never had a fish get ich or anything else parasitic) and was ready to buy a hospital tank. But when I get home the spots have completely disappeared???
I should say that my Midas' hiding spot is in between two pieces of rock, and sometimes he gets detritus on him, but it always comes off when he swims. I assumed this was ich because I observed him for about 20 mins until I had to leave for work.
My question is: does ich do this? Appear and then disappear? Or does he likely not have it?
Obviously I will be monitoring him closely, and I'm just gonna buy a 10 gal anyway for future use.
