Is this worm looking thing good or bad?

The worm I am talking about is above the orange sponge but below the zoa frag disc on the rock.

I see it. Not sure how anyone will know from that pic. the feather isn't extended ... 'meh

If it doesn't come back in 2 weeks = DEAD

The one I've had for 6 mos through thick and thin appears to be dead, but I'm waiting it out. Not before they put about 100 of the things all over the rest of the tank.

Looks like a tube worm tube. Those are supposedly always good, filter feeders collecting nutrients and junk from the water.

I don't think they're an issue, but I don't have a positive ID. I have similar looking things in my tank.

When I feed my duncan and my reef with reef bugs, this long stringy thing comes out of the tube and collects food floating around as it falls on the rock and corals. I guess a tube worm would be the best description; but definately alive.

maybe look on melevsreef.com/id hes got a lot of stuff on there. Picture is too fuzzy for me to recognize it.

Kind of looks/sounds like a vermetid snail. Is the tube hard? Here's a link to an article on them: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-01/rs/index.php . I have had problems with the small ones reproducing and causing issue, but the bigger ones like yours have never seemed to cause much issue for me.

Thanks for the link. That was very interesting.

I agree with techigirl78 and think its a vermetid snail also. They send out a web like thing to collect food just like you said. I had a few and slowly broke them all off the rock. They will rebuild the tube if you don't get the actual critter in the base of the tube..

You say you broke them off of the rock.

Does this mean they are not good to have and I should get mine out as well?

I read the article, but it didn't say that they are bad for a reef.
