Love the rock he's in. The tulip/flower anemones are a nice find also.

Someone in a different forum said this about the anemones.

Does anyone know for sure? I sure like them and don't want to get rid of them.

If you like em, keep em. They could turn into pests if they spread to rocks and start to bother things you dont want bothered. Might just take the whole rock and start the mantis display.
I try to be nice and remove all unwanted anemones (apt, mojano, flower, rock anems) from my stuff- they get placed into a tank of misfits as future mantis tank decor. Seems there is always one or two mixed into a newly aquired zoanthid or rock purchase.

HAHA ok...I decided I didn't want to deal with him in my tank that's being converted to a reef tank...SO...I knew where he lived and after waiting 30 minutes for him to come out of the rock in an empty cooler, got a hammer and a flat screwdriver and went WHACK!!! split the rock in two, and he fell out completely unharmed (along with about 10 big brittles I didn't know I had). Here's his pic...what is he?

OK ... so ...his new 10 gallon tank is all set up...he's got a great new home......but where I got his rock from yesterday....I bought something else and they left it on the counter and they let me get another piece of rock for the inconvenience...

GUESS WHAT!!! I HAVE ANOTHER FREAKING MANTIS!!!

My husband said "honey you have another mantis" and I told him to shut up cuz I thought he was messing with me. I totally didn't believe him.

This thing is about an inch long and PRETTY pink and green....he is a little different though....this one's NOT shy...he went after a little blue-leg hermit and knocked him off his rock!!!!!!

by the time I got my camera this is all I got....NOW what do I do...I don't want to kill the beauty!!

Catch it and send it to me :-P

depends on what he is though... or you could set up another 10 gal, just get a whole line of 'em going!

Depends on what you want to do. You could divide that 10 with a piece of Plexyglass, or sell it to the LFS, or Trade it to a RC member.

Depending on where in Florida you are I might be able to trade info on where to get your snook, sheepshead, grouper, and black sea bass (not on your list but cool none the less) for a mantis. :)

Is it hard to get mantis shrimp I take it?

OK, well I'll see if I can get him out. He's in a really cool rock that I don't want to break this time.

This is my sea robin who seems to be circling the mantis...and the mantis knows it!! They seem to spend a lot of time checking each other out.

This is very funny...I feel like the mighty mantis hunter!!!

I just looked up Sea Robins, and it says that they eat crustaceans. I assume that he is sizing up the mantis as a potential meal. I guess he didn't read the 'Living With a Mantis Shrimp' memo...he had better watch his step...er, what is the equivalent of a step for a fish? his 'swish'?

I would separate or at least divide the area if you do not want to lose either one. At the least, make sure they are well fed....and not by having the other over for dinner!

Kill all of that stuff or you will regret it. Best way is to take te rock out and burn it off with a BBQ lighter.

What?!?

Don't kill it if someone else wants it. there are posts here all the time regarding someone wanting a mantis. I even sent a thread of someone looking on Reef Central. Also, LFS will often take them for credit.

However, I would not buy any more rock from that particular lfs!

If you can catch it I would be willing to pay shipping. I'm trying pretty hard to get a smaller mantis, as the only ones we can order at work are 3.5-4" min. BLAH!!! I want a little one to start with!

It's a warehouse place that ships to stores all over the world. It's 10 minutes away and I didn't know they existed because they don't advertise locally. I found out about them on these forums. Apparently everyone within 2 hours drives to this place for their local stores or their own local tanks. They are dirt cheap, and give special deals to local teachers. The tanks at school have the most amazing anemones, serpents, urchins etc all over the rock along with plants and corals.

They also have about 100 mantis (prob more) in one of their plastic tanks so I know they'll take this one for credit. But Xyt I'll try to find a way to get him for you.

I have the other one out but it's not as pretty in my opinion so I don't think you want him. I'll let you know if I catch him. I could always just put him in his own 30 gallon at school and he could be the class "pet"

If you want, I'll find out how much they are at the store. I might be able to buy it for you and ship it to you. They have a LOT ... some very tiny and some larger.

I've had several PM's about this store. It is:

They are called Aquatic Vision. Their number is 727-841-9329...

6028 Pine Hll Rd.
Port Richey, FL 3465* ( not sure of that last number)

Let me know if they help you out. They have many many MANY manis. I just don't know how they ship out to the general public unless you happen to live here.

Wow, thats pretty cool. Let me see if my store deals with them, cuz we might, but if not I may have to take you up on that offer. I'm still working on plumbing the new tank for him/her. I drilled and painted it, I just need to set up the return plumbing.
