ISO Corals

I am new at this saltwater thing. I have dropped a ton of money into my 150 gallon aquarium. I am setting it up as a reef tank with few fish. The only problem is that I have little-no money left to do anything with. I was wondering if there was anyone around the Vestal / Binghamton area that might have frags or clippings that they could part with. I have been talking to a gentleman from freecycle that directed me here for help. So far I have had a good experience with people and saltwater. It's alot different than a tropical setup that is for sure. Thank you all for the time and efforts that you are probably going to spend on educating and helping me in the future.

what types of corals are you looking for? you could drive out to syracuse sunday morning for the frag swap? i have a few ppl bringing stuff there for me for really great prices

I am looking for frags or trimmings. Anything that will grow and make my tank look better. I was going to ask wife if she wanted to go to the swap, but turns out that we had pre-existing plans. Do they have these meets often or not?

if your willing to drive a little then yeah just keep checking the forums! what type of lighting do you have? how long has the system been setup? if you ever make it to elmira my lfs has a pretty good selection. look them up the city zoo on lake road in elmira

i have 2 3' coralife compact flourescent hoods. They each have one 50/50 and one 10000k bulbs in them. The tank is filtered by four dual c biowheels and a fluval 405 canister. I keep the tank at an even 75-77 degrees and the tank has been setup for about 6-8 months. I started with 4 bags of live crushed coral and put 50# of mixed live and base rock in. I have dealt with the whole aptasia and redslime phase and just gor over the mossy algae all over everything stage. I am working with two of the areas best fish guys on keeping the tank running great. Rich (from Natures pets) and Rick (from Creature Comforts) if you are reading this thank you guys sooooo much for all your assistance.

not to rip on anyone but i wouldnt take everything to heart that ppl at the lfs say! i was in natures best fish the other day and really wasnt impressed with the way he cares for his tanks..... and recently i was talking with another local reefer about creature comforts and the name that he used was rick the Di*k. i personally have talked with both of them and wasnt impressed with their thoughts on how things should be done. nwrogers and fatrip are a couple great sources of information near you! you should def contact nwrogers about looking at his tank its absolutely GORGEOUS

with the lighing you have i would stick to softies..... if you ever make it to elmira i could probably get you some frags of kenya tree and what not for cheap

thanks for the info on them. Like I said they have done ok by me. I am always looking for advice nomatter what I think I know. Because what I think I know is about 1/100000000000 of what I need to know. lol. I have a friend that is trying to find me a couple of metal halide lights for my setup. He foud a set of 2 dual halide fixtures last year for 50 dollars a piece. I know that I have to stick to soft corals right now though. That much I know. Thank you again.

If you make it over to Elmira once in a while I have great beginner corals. Mostly soft corals, mushrooms, zoanthia, ricordia. I am putting together some new pictures of the frags and extras I have but you see some on my webpage.

I just upgraded about 6 months ago so the main tank is pretty empty.

The frogspawns pictured are each about 10-12 heads and I have 2 heads frags. I also have a small pulsing xenia, some green palys, mushrooms and zoos.
