My reef Octopus skimmer 150 is putting out a TON of micro bubbles. I use the sponges but still there is a TON of micro bubbles and the problem is the return pump shoots out all the bubbles into the main display tank. Is there a solution to this?

Well my sump is to small but it can fit both in there very tightly. But the skimmer is shooting out all these micro bubbles and the return pump is sucking it up.

All in sump immers are oingtoput out some microbubbles. The best way to jix it is do a gate valve mod on the exit pipe of the skimmer.

Also you could block the bubbles going to the pump by placing a filter pad between the skimmer and it.

How long have you been running it?

I have never used an Octopus skimmer before, but it may have to be broken in.

I left it on for about 3 minutes at the max. Should I just leave the skimmer on overnight and keep the return pump off. I stll have other ph for flow in my tank though.

Microbubbles aren't going to hurt anything. Go ahead and leave it on overnight. It's very difficult to see any microbubbles coming out of my NW-150, FWIW. Is everything on tight?

I put the gate valve mod on and run the drain into a filter sock. Relieves the micro bubble problem and catches any particles not taken out by the skimmer. Need to change it regularly, but no big deal really.

Not sure, buy why are you freakin about the microbubbles? It sounds like this is new and not even broken in yet. You could take it out and run vinegar/water through it for a night or so, and that would really clean it. Then stick it in the sump and let it really breakin and get a slime film going and I bet a lot of the bubbles disappear.

Give it at least a few days to break in and see if you're still getting bubbles. If so, a gate valve mod with a filter sock on the outlet will take care of it. If you need info on the mod, I think there is a post in the Octopus mod thread. You can also look at the mod for the ASM skimmers on www.asmskimmer.com . The pipe sizes will be different (Octopus is metric pipe), but the idea is the same.

Something does not sound right here? There is at least 6in from where the water is pumped in to where it exits through the pipe at the bottom of the reaction chamber. On my 200 the bubbles don't even come close to the bottom-even after the mesh mod.

Did they send you an OTP 3000 by mistake?

As far as the sock goes-just get a pair of your wife's/girlfriends panty hose-cut the foot end off and rubberband it to the end of your riser tube. It might effect the flow a little so adjust the tube accordingly. good luck

Nope its an OTP 2000. I took a carbon bag and put two mesh pieces and folded them and put them inside the bag and put the bag over the exit return of the skimmer. Its helping a little bit. It also raised the level of the skimmer.

Did you run it with hot water and vinegar before putting in the sump? If no just let it run for a couple days,,,it needs time to break in..

If yes then still let it run for a couple days....

While it is running find the octopus mod thread and start reading.......This should take awhile
