Issue with Tunze 6055 clamp

I just finished performing a water change a few hours ago and took the opportunity to clean my nano stream and to my surprise the clamp broke while removing it even though I removed the magnet before separating the pump from the clamp.
What was more alarming was that both clamp arms broke (they were cracked about half way up the arms), I have not even owned the pump a year and it was purchased new.

I dont know if this would be under warranty but I don't have the receipt anymore.

I love the product and I am currently in the process of purchasing a 9011. I just hate the fact that this happened as now I will have an added expense when I order my skimmer.

Is this a common issue, has this happened to others, am I just unlucky? I hope so as I would hate to have to replace one every year.:twitch:

This was a common issue for the older clamps. When the nano-streams first came out the clamps were very poor quality and broke a lot. Since then however they made a much stronger clamp. I dont assume to know what happened in your case but it is possible that you got one of the older style clamps. I have owned my tunzes for 3-4 years and have had no problems since they changed the clamps.

Call Roger at Tunze USA and he will straighten you out Im sure.

I wouldn't say the clamps were poor quality, we just picked the wrong plastic, the original clamp was GE Lexan, a very high quality plastic, just too brittle for the application. The Lexan clamp hasn't been available since November 2007 so this would be a very unusual incident. We now use Luran which is a BASF plastic and it is very flexible and springy, since this change we haven't had any breakage issues. PM me the address as well as details of where the pump was purchased and when and we will send a clamp.

Thank you Roger. PM sent. I don't know if it makes a difference but I just realized I purchased the pump online in Feb of 2010 which makes it almost 1 1/2 years old.

Thank you again for getting back to me
