I have no idea what is going on with my SPS. I see white little wormy things coming out @ night and the corals are slowly loosing color and withering away

some pics of the sadness

my params are right on

ALk 9.0
Cal 420
Mag 1350
PO4 0.04
salinity 1.026
temp 77

Getting ready to dump bleach in the tank and start over

PH is @ 8.0- 8.18 avg on my reefkeeper.

the parasitic type worm goes away when the lights are on!

What you are seeing might actually be a defensive mechanism created by the sps in effort to fight off whatever stress is causing them to decline. Just a thought.

Following to see if these are actually a parasitic or pathogen creating problems for your sps.

Is that the same coral????? It looks like the last 2 pics are dead and/or sliming. I do notice when I do heavy tank feedings and leave the return off, so the whole tank can marinade for a couple hours, my SPS get similar long white strands like those. I always assumed they were feeding. None of my corals look like your last 2 pics though. Tagging along to see what the consensus is. Good Luck!!!!

Those are Mesenterial filaments

They are a part of the coral used for aggression, defense, and capturing prey (feeding).

something is wrong, and I do not know whats up, but it is not good. I have kept SPS for years and have never seen this.

Is the only coral its happening to? Those are mes. filaments likely throwing them out because its stressed and dieing.

How many fish do you have and how often are you feeding? I would guess that your corals may be starving to death.

I also have a red planet that is going south, and I see the white filaments also.
I am going to search and try to find out what is wrong???

Lets move away from this for a minute shall we? Are the polyps out? You mention the coloration, how has it changed? What about the other corals?

A FTS of the tank is what we need, what you are feeding, your maintenance schedule, what you have...or have not changed recently.

Its the things you can't see or are not looking for is what I am after.....and pictures help the fastest to reveal that.

The single picture has a white tip, that may be a sign of alkalinity.....the list goes on.....however your not giving anyone much to go on.....

just that sps doing that? something is in the water that should not be there : /

I agree with that, something is in my water that is not supposed to be there:smokin:

I change my water every week using Aquavitro Salinity 10 gallons on a 100 gallon system.

the only thing I dose it cal alk and mag

+1 on needing a FTS.

This may be pathogenic in nature. Does the "white worm" move on its own or does it sway with the current. If the latter, I'm in agreement that these are mesenterial filaments. If it moves on its own, it may be a parasite, something unknown or rare.

Either way, if this is only effecting 2 corals, I would toss them immediately to help preserve your other specimens.

maybe not toss them but i would QT them. if it is something rare or unknown it may be worth researching and finding out what exactly it is and how to combat it.

I noticed when switching from Halides to LED's that alot of my corals that were higher up started to pale out alot. They're were no doubt not used to the increased light. I had some that started to recede and bleach. I moved them lower in the tank and they started to recover.
