Its 92deg in San Jose; How hot is your tank?

i am in campbell so the temp must be close to what it was in san jose. the tank went up to 84.
so how high is too high ? i always thought that upto 85 deg is not an issue. i normally run my tank around 82. from all the posts, it seems that ppl run their tanks at much lowers temps. so any specific reason for lower temps?

stay cools everyone :)

For the people that do not have a chiller or central AC, why not invest in a chiller. Is it worth risking everything in the tank after spending all that time and effort? This is just the start of summer and it is only gong to get hotter.

For those who don't use it: Evaporative cooling with fans is a really effective means of controlling your temp.

I used to only rely on the chiller and after some reluctance, tried it for myself and was suprised on how well is does work. The week I tried it, my chiller was comming on once an hour and went down to once a day.

From what I have seen most in Sacramento get away with that more than using a chiller which suprises me. If they can get away with it, I think you guys can as well.

I am still a chiller fan though, too much invested.

Up to 85 degrees is not an issue, but some say SPS colors do better lower. As a safety procedure, I try to shoot in the middle of the range and go for 80 degrees. But if you within the range, stability is more important and not have it have multiple, large daily shifts.

omg, i went upstairs to my tank at 6 in the evening, 88 in the tank. I rushed and super cooled the top off water w/ ice and started running the fan. Now its down to 78 about 6 hours later. Everything survived, except now a pom pom xenia is deflated. I hope it doesnt melt.

I have one Q though. Im leaving for a 1.5 week trip on July 4. I have the fan on a timer for 6 hours a day (11 am-6pm). Im worried about the top off cause the tank evaps about half a gallon a day easy. Any ideas?

No auto top off? Take a look at Elite's post. He's selling one right now for a great price. The ATO w/a decent size reservoir will solve the problem.
