It's another algae problem. well i took some of the advice given to me last time and i had the lights off for a whole week but the algae is still there. it did not died off at all during the period the lights were off.

turning off your lights alone wont fix the problem... the problem is your water... what are your phospates? how many fish do you have? how much LR? what kind of skimmer? whats your light sch?

you are correct but i was hoping as adviced from some of the other members that it would help. i thought it was the first step to fixing my water problem. also would it be wise to do a large water change?

well if you had your lights off for a week, algae just doesnt disappear. you have to scrap it off the rock or off the glass, then do a water change to get it out. then you might have to look at your water quality to see if it'll start back again

Monkeefish,
Bebo77's questions are standard when one is seeking help for a problem in the RC forums. Solutions need to be tailored to the system not just blind answers. When seeking answers to a problem it is always helpful to include all water parameters and tank specs and equipment used.

BTW, turning off the lights was a waste of time and would not solve the problem......excess nutrients.

Sorry did not meant to offend you or mean't you are a noob. I have 1 small fish, 30lbs of LR, Skimmer is a ASM GX1 but out of order at the moment, and Light source is 250DE. As for phosphate, i do not know for sure.

There is your problem. You have no way of exporting nutrients added by feeding. Without a skimmer I would suggest large weekly water changes to export nutrients and get them down to reasonable levels. You may also want to consider a Phosban reactor. This will help you export phospates. Keep and eye on Alk though if you user this method. Also get the skimmer fixed! Good luck and happy reefing.

Thanks just a little tight on money lately to get a new pump for it but i do have a phosban reactor. How large of a water change am i looking at? I was also wondering if i can do a 80-90% water change once and proceed with 50% water change weekly? also i do not do much feeding.

If you have only the opne fish and you can match the water temp and ph with the tank then There would be no problem with an 80 to 90% water change. No corals right?
