It's been a while, what are the high end zoas?

Evyllchyld

Trying again
It's been quite a long time since I've had a tank, and I'm thinking about jumping back in. I've always had a soft spot for zoas and their larger cousins.

Back when I was in it, PPE were the high end zoas. I'm sure there are new ones.

Anyone care to share? Price? Pictures as well?

For the most part they're the same ones that cost $10 back when you were in the hobby, only now they have a super shiny photoshopped picture and a hyped $200 price tag.

Finally someone other than myself that has a brain.

There are a Zillion Zoanthids and New Ones come up every day so it is really really hard to keep up :)

Some of the Hotter Ones Today would be

Speckaled Kraks
Hallucinations
Stratospheres
Bowsers
Pointsettias

Just to Name a Few

right on i remember when i started i could buy a rock full for 20$
a couple years later im paying 200$ for 3 polyps of the same rock.
But the pictures are pretty cool and the names. It used to be "that rock with the blue and green with purple ones" for 30$.
now its " super nuclear hulk vs spiderman vs batman/superman zoa" for 400$. :crazy1:

Lol. I'm sure those are all nice zoas (I'm not a zoanthid guy). Point is while yes completely unrelated, what was normal 8 years ago or half that time is now demanding huge amounts of money because 1. People are dumb enough to pay it, and 2. They have a name and are in a super saturated photo.

I mean you do realize, all these corals are just wild caught colonies that were fragged then grown under certain light to obtain certain colors then photoshopped and sold under a made up name and priced at 20 times there worth. It's not like these people are making these lol.

Well people always have opinions man. Hopefully you can get the particular zoanthids you want and enjoy the hobby, that is what we are here for in the first place. Can you share pics and prices per OP request as I too would like to see some of these zoas.

Names and prices have gotten wacky over the years. Don't worry about what's hot unless you're looking to make a business out of it. Find what you like, at a price you're willing to pay, buy it and watch it grow.

I've always been partial to eagle eye, dragon eye, and magicians - none of which I currently have. Hornets are also pretty nice. I have some zoas now that look like Sunny D's that I picked up for $20 or so from Cultivated Reef, and after two years, I'm finally getting a new polyp. I'm way more excited about it then I should be, lol.

Just look with a critical eye if buying online, as most vendors turn the blue way up when the photograph, so it may not be WYSIWYG.

Won't list prices, they vary too much. List with pics of well sought after zoas, and a few I just think are really cool.

The high end ones are the ones I can't afford :)

However as stated above it makes room for a "bargain" or "bulk" supplier of the same ones for much less.

Those rainbow rastas are awesome! I'm not that high end on mine yet, only have a few more places in my tank, thinking about going high end for the final locations. Awesome pics!

i currently have hallucinations, rainbow maul, pink kraks and to be honest i look forward to the next "ultra" zoanthid i end up with.
next up for me will likely be the stratospheres i keep eyeballing at my lfs and on a side note seeing as i haven't ever come to reef central to get financial advice before so i'll probably just disregard the haters that are too smart to buy the unique corals.

One great thing about the higher end Zoa is you seem to always make you money back after fragging. I didn't want to spend that kinda money at first but was always able to fund the next purchase or trade
