It's been asked before I'm sure

Hey everyone, I just got 10 or so frags from someone last week, and everything opened up right away except one frag. I've moved him around to different spots in the tank, and nothing seems to work. I was just wondering what some of you people do when you get stubborn polyps in your tank. More light? Less light? More or less flow? Is there anything you can do to convince polyps to open up?

Just to let you know I've got these frags in a 20 gallon long, with a 150W 20K HQI. There's plenty of flow everwhere in the tank, except for probably one little corner, and my water parameters are all good. I don't have these problems very often, so I'm not exactly sure what else I should try. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

i've only been in the hobby for almost a year so i don't know how qualified i am to answer, but I had a red zoa frag and a ppe frag that wouldn't open for the longest time, and in my observation the best thing to do is just leave it alone (but do observe it to make sure there aren't predators etc.) I think the more you touch them and move them around the more irritated it will be and less likely to open. if you think your params are good just be patient and eventually it will open assuming its not being bothered by a predator.

well, make sure its glued down and not blowing around. make sure its not visibly diseased or something eating/picking at it.

and after that, just stop moving it around and let it settle out. sometimes some take longer than others (i.e. carribean morphs).

sometimes they make it, sometimes they dont.

but a pic would be quite helpful. :)

Wow two replies in less than five minutes, I'm impressed. I think I'll just leave them alone for now. Right now they are off to the side of the tank, with a good amount of flow and not too much light. There are no visible parasites that I can see. The frag in question here is about 15 polyps of Orange and Pink Rim PEs. I dont know if being palys would make a difference or not. I would take a pic, but my camera isn't good enough to take a decent pic. Thanks for help so far!!

PLEEEAAAAASE take a picture!! i've never seen such a PE w/ orange and pink in the same polyp. dont worry about your photo skills. all i need to see is the colors/patterns to get an idea of what it looks like.

if you follow our advice and they open will you send us each a polyp? lol kidding, just wanted to wish ya good luck with your new palys they sound really nice. :)

great advice on leaving them alone and letting them settle...

anyway, from my experience, newcomers do better if you give them moderate flow... just make sure they're not being irritated by too much flow though... and between low to med lighting..

good luck and please provide us with pics of those PE's...
