Its been off to the races, I need Help.

Hello All,
I was looking for some help my anemones They keep walking around, I have a GBTA & a RBTA in my aquarium. For the past year they have done very well time perched up near the top of the aquarium ,splitting every few months. I changed the bulbs from 175 Watt 10K MH to 175 Watt 14K Bulbs and from then on its been off to the races, I am forever looking for them. The pair of Maroon Clowns are also lost. Does anyone else think the higher 14K bulbs have caused the guys to move becasue they are not happy. I am planning on changing back to 10K's. Nothing else in the tank has changed.

If they were splitting every few months before the bulb change, I would guess they were not happy then either. They may be having a chemical war between the green and rose. How big is your tank, and what other type of corals do you have with them?

I do not believe it is the bulbs, I keep all of mine under 14K.

it is a 125 with 50 gal sump. if it is a chemical war why would the stay close together The other corals are a Frogs Spaw, open brain, leather corals.

Ive had an extreamly happy bta for 8 months. I did a bulb change (same bulb, just changed it out for a new one after 6 months) and its been walking for weeks. Its actually been in the same spot now for 4 days so im really hoping it stays.'

I use hamilton 14k bulbs. but when i changed it out, the new one seemed much bluer, and the nem is currently perched on the highest rock in the tank...

so i think your conclusion may be right.

oh, personally i think its fine keeping btas together. diff colors shouldent matter..

That doesn't explain the splitting every few months prior to the bulb change. I also keep a rose and a green together, but I have read where others have had problems with it. How many total BTA's are in the tank, and how long ago did you change the lighting?

If you did nothing else, than that probably explains their behavior. 10k's par is usually more than 14k so that could suggest a reason as to why they left. Maybe you should try putting back the 10k to see whether they will stay put.

I changed the bulbs about 3 months ago, I have one of each in the aquarium I always removed the split. I thought They split when they were happy. I ordered new 10K's and they should be in soon.

BTA's will split under stress. Any time mine have split, I've always been able to fiqure out the problem, heater broke, pump over heated or alkalinity dropped, or just being moved to another tank. This doesn't necessarily mean that they won't split if there is no stress. BTAs splitting every few months is too often IMO.

I would think that after 3 months they would have adjusted to the new lighting.

mine went from 3-4 inches to over 16 inches in 6 months, and split 3 ways. no stress involved.

theres also a rbta variety that seem to split constantly.. so ive read/heard.

Tourkid: I've heard of BTA's that large splitting, I'm under the impression that is quite normal when they get to be that large.

I'm assuming that the two BTA's in question are not that large, since they are splitting so often.

Do you remember where you read this about the rbta variety that splits constantly? I've not seen this and am interested in learning more about it.

Good afternoon all, without many options, I have decided to replace the 14k's with new 10K's and moved the BTA's back to where they were happy for oh so long. I am also in the process of doing a 50% water change over the next week. Hopefully everyone will be happy again. I would like to thank everyone for their help. I appreciate the suggestions.
