well with a little help and drill bits from reefartist the 90g is drilled.we did a few test holes first on a broken 10g then a new 10g(for reefartists autotop off).then we got down to buisness and drilled the 90g.
here is the test hole on the new 10g

once again, thank you reefartist for all the help with drilling, remember when you want that sump/fuge or anything else just pm me and ill hook you up

That looks cool and now you're the tank drilling expert! Once we quit talking about corals and reef tanks and got down to business I think it only took about 10 minutes each max. With the right tools it really isn't that bad. I had a lot of fun anytime you need anything - just give me a call. I think I need to start on my refugium plans :D Thanks for all the information today.

yes drilling wasnt that bad once you do it.i was just being timid about doing it for the first time.its always hard not to talk reefs when around a fellow reefer, and i always enjoy seeing someone elses tank.and yes start those plans for the sump/fuge.im gonna build mine this upcoming week i think,so i will post pics of the build.btw reefartist read the saturday pic post here in the forum.look at his lighting and look at what hes keeping ;)

SWEET!!! I also drilled today...three 85mm holes and one 45mm hole. I'll post pics tomorrow. I'm taking a break from installing the glass partitions for the fuge and bubble trap.

yes please do post some pics.i saw you loop setup in another thread and all can say is sheesh  ,insane amount of pluming going on there.i have to say you really are setting up that tank sooooooo nice,im so envious.i cant wait to see the outcome of all your work.

That's great Mike, it sounds like we had a very successful drilling weekend. I might have to drain my 65g now and start drilling while the drill gods are with us - hmmmm :D No pumps on the inside of my tank and get some sweet flow- Might have to go for it!

Did y'all drill from the inside or outside???
checkinhawk...I'm trying to incorporate all I've learned into this one, and since there is no rush for water, I'm really taking my time and trying to do my best work.

we drilled from the outside.you are doing awesome work.i am also in no rush so im trying to do this tank better than ive ever done one(hence the loop).ive always had powerheads and crap in the tank and i hate it.the loop just makes it so much cleaner.my set up will have 8 inlets,2 of em from sump and 6 from the loop(only 3 at a time open in 20 second cycles)

Hey mflamb, I heard that it's better to drill from the inside out because if you're going to get chips it's going to be when the bit goes (finishing). On smaller tanks of course it's very had to get the bit and drill inside the tank to drill (10g no way). For yours because it is so big I think you would be better off drilling from the inside. I really don't think it makes that much of a difference and I've seen both. But - if you have the room inside the tank to be comfortable to make the holes - from what I've read it would be better (JMO).

I thought you might be able to drill it that way. We would have had to lay on the ground and with the water . . . etc. I think you have more control drilling from the top and just letting the drills weight do most of the work. I'd say we had some very tiny chips also but nothing even close to worrying about. It was a little nerve racking at first but after doing the 10g with the thin glass we both learned very fast that the 10g was the hardest. These bits are definitely easier that using the dremel bits and much, much faster.

Oh yeah...I was quite nervous when I started the first 3.4 inch hole in the 125. It took much longer than I thought it would, but I kept it slow and light pressure. I was so excited when I got the first one done.

Man - LOL I couldn't even imagine drilling a 125g, yea I'd be nervous also. How did the bits do? I like them and at only a few bucks how can you go wrong. I think I'm going to put in another order, maybe for a few larger ones to work with my fusable glass art. If you need anything just let me know, I'm going to order them in the next day or so. I know I'll be getting one of the 3.4inch bits.

nah, after we drilled the 10g we felt it would be easier to drill the 90g.the thin glass on the 10 worried me.

Good job guys! Where did you order your bits from? I got mine from ebay about 1.5yrs ago. They were cheap, but I think after a dozen holes or so they're about spent.

wow thats awsome i would be so worried if i had to drill mine but i would have faith in myself .
does anyone here have a 1/2 hole saw ?
good job looks real nice
if ya ever need any help hawk im in st pete also
Dennis
