its hip to be square....

Picked up that barracuda pump, man that thing is huge!! Wondering if its too much for my tank with only 4-5ft of head loss. Reply bing my stock tank Monday/Tuesday to get it back up w water in it for my fish.
Dropped a few shrimp in pantyhose in my trash cans to cycle the rock.
Slow n steady

Just drilled a new hole in the stock tank for the pump. Anyone out there have a barracuda pump, how loud are they? A guy local to me has a goby gold he'd trade with me.

This picture is an outlet that I will use to perform water changes. I live in a flat apartment so to make my life easier I drilled that hole, put a ball valve on it with a nipple. I will connect a hose to that nipple, open the valve and voila water change to a desired level then I can pump my 22 gallon brute of saltwater right back in. Nice an simple. Much easier than my previous method :D

Question, the overflow box is going to be internal, how many drains. I was thinking 3 1.5 inch drains and 1 1.5 return then plumb it into 2 returns. Ne on each side of the overflow box. Or would 2 return holes be better.
I'd draw it up to show everyone but I have no clue on google sketch up or anything like that. So anyone care to explain that to me it'd be cool as well!

Ok, still debating on the barracuda or the goby gold.....and to add confusion I'm not thinking of an aluminum stand instead of wood. Not sure how I'd skin it or if I want to get that route but I'm thinking about it.
Anyone out here have experience with the aluminum stands?
Corey

Corey, I run 4 1" drains on my 120. Two are full siphons, one is a backup and the last is an additional backup. Completely silent and micro bubble free!

Jason wha size pump do you have as a return? I forget....George thinks 1 inch drains too I was only saying 1.5 since its what I had on my last tank

......I'll be needing some frags from ya soon buddy! :D

I have a Dart pump feeding my display, frag tank, media reactor, and calcium reactor. I'd guess 2/3 of the flow from the Dart go to my display. I had to drill holes under every other slot in my overflow to be able to handle the flow. The 2 1" full siphon drains can easily handle all I can throw at it. My limitation on increased flow is the teeth in the overflow box and not the drains.

Just let me know on the frags!

ok, i have a barracuda but am thinking of changing it out for a goby gold. will probably feed my reactor with it too. what pump do you use for your skimmer?
i might swing by and check out your system for some plumbing ideas. everytime i have been there i cant stop looking at your tank. but getting ready to start plumbing the pump and want some ideas. tank and skimmer still a few weeks out..

I run my GEO beckett off a Panworld 150PS.

Sure, come on by and take a look. I'll keep the lights off on my display so you don't get distracted!

I will. I'll pm ya!

I think I will go with wood for my stand after all. Just a little easier to figure out and 1/2 the price or so...

I have a barracuda gold. They are relatively quiet for their size and power. My setup has the pump in my basement so the noise doesn't bother me but if it was under my stand would immediately get a new pump it is still very loud. I can't think of a reason one would need to run such a large pump though unless they had a basement build and have all that head pressure. One thing to note is that they run very cool and are also the most energy efficient for their size / rating. How any GPH are you targeting and how much head pressure will you have?

Only about 5ft of head. I got the pump from a guy local breaking his tank down. I can feed my reactors off it but I could do that with the goby pump too. They pump will be right in my living room as will these noisy vortechs :(. I do like their energy use for water moved

Did you consider a speed wave 10000 they don't come more energy efficient or controllable then that! I have one and it's awesome. heck it out I highly recommend the pump.

Ive been lurking looking for one or something similar. Not sure if I can feed my reactors off that pump though. Although with such low wattage one small pump won't hurt. Then I could trade that barracuda for a pump for the skimmer.
I'm still tinkering on ideas though, another 2 weeks before we order the acrylic I'm thinking

I'm using it to feed

Skimmer 600 GPH
Carbon Reactor low GPH
GFO Reactor Low GPH
Calcium Reactor Low GPH
Chiller 600 GPH

It does a little over 2,100 GPH so with head loss and elbows etc.. I am running it full speed. Before I added the chiller I was running it at 80%

Thanks Adam. I will likely use mine to feed carbon/gfo and maybe back into sump. I might add an outlet for a calcium reactor but being a softy lps tank I've never had the need for one. I will run a dedicated pump for my skimmer tho because it will be a pressure rated pump.
Any pictures of how yours is plumbed

So no new real updates. Few small things, trading barracuda out for a goby gold. Less pump more quiet. Buying some lumber this week. Going to start my stand soon, using 2/4 and 2/6's. wish I was good at google sketch up or something I'd post up mock drawings of my plans and we could review them and better any areas of improvement.
