Yeah, the rosy fins are great! I know they had 2 good looking males at Tat's earlier this week. They're supposed to be having a sale this weekend on livestock.

hey garrick- what was your method of keeping your mystery wrasse from getting all crazy w/ the new aquisitions, bro? esp knowng that the mystery was in there first? no territorial bs?

Hey Garrick

Call me. I can come out today(after church) or tomorrow. Looks like we missed a good swap! Garrick, allow me to respond to microbubbles:
The method is called "sump-dwelling" :D

It's been a long time since I've updated any pictures of my tank. Here are a few shots to start the year:

Thanks!

I'm pretty happy with my skimmer. I tend to skim more wet but I try to keep up with water changes every 3 weeks to replenish what's been skimmed out. I've done the gate valve mod and the re-circulating mod on the skimmer right when I got it. I don't know how it would run without those mods.

pookstreet: If you have the space, the bigger tank is soooo worth it. Your options of what you can keep and stability of the tank increase so much!

lowbudget: The purple rim is still one of my favorite caps out there. I lost my original colony years ago. Luckily, a friend still had a piece and I got it back last year. Thanks goodness it grows fast!

Rik: Yeah, the blue hippos have grown a lot. It's funny cause they were the same size when I got them. Now, one is MUCH larger than the other. I guess one just steals all the food!

Is that insulation under the tank.
I thought insulation on aglass tank was bad?? Ho wis that working for you??

Hi Bill, I placed 1/2" styrofoam between the tank and the stand to take away any imperfections on the top of the stand, just in case. I haven't had any problems using the foam. I also know a few other reefers in the area with big glass tanks that have done this as well. No problems from them either.

I was told absolutely, positivly NO.

so I did not do it. And I worked extra hard to minimze those imperfections. It would have been easier to plan for the insulation..

Thanks for the reply.

Bill

Hmmm... never heard that before. I've used it on my last two glass tanks. I'd be curious to hear the reason why you shouldn't use it?

I was told taht the glass tanks are supported from the perimeter glass, not the bottom glass, and byplacing insulation under it, that would transfer the weight to the bottom glass, which was not designed to carry the weight of the tank and water.

So support only the edges.

It kind of makes sense but then again it doesnt. The perimeter glass supports the bottom glass through the silicone, so whether the silicone supports the wieght of the tank from teh bottom glass then transfers it to the perimertor or visa versa, does not make sense...

I am not an engineer so I can not give an answer, onlhy relay what I was told.

Hey Garrick!

Tank is looking sweeter than ever! Funny how fish grow at different rates. Mine have been the same size for over a year so I guess it's as good as it gets for mine.:D
Since we have the same tank, I bet your base glass is 2" thick as well. Should be a solid foundation.
Keep up the good work! Good to see some of the old timers hangin' in there! I threw in the white towel awhile back. When I'm ready, I'll jump back in! I've been busy spending my money trying to soup up the Land Cruiser instead.:bum:
