I've finally converted, well sort of! :loony:

Yesterday I picked up some LR, 7 kg, from one of our members in Cambridge, then further up the road I stopped at Manchester to pick up a Deltec MCE300 and external filter.

This left me with a slight predicament as my tank still had freshwater in it! So last night I emptied it, cleaned it and placed the LR in it in the bucket it was in, along with its salt water, powerhead and heater.

Today I went to an LFS to buy some more water, but couldnt get enough to fill the tank in the time I had. I decided that some was better than none, and the LR would be better in the tank than the bucket! Whilst I was at the LFS I also bought another piece weighing 3.5 kg and some coral sand.

I also put the skimmer on the tank, but cant switch it on yet due to the water level.

The plans nowe done I will measur for the weekend are to get my arcadia luminaire on the tank, and fill the tank to the required level. Once done I will measure and record my water parameters and.wait :yap:

Either way, Im happy and I think the rock looks quite good too.

Stan

looks nice so far. I am not really sure, but the stuff growing out of the LR looks dead...shouldnt you pull that out? Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in. Good luck

The lights are the standard T8's but will be swapped over to T5's at the weekend.

I am not sure if the stuff growing is dead or alive to be honest????

a brand new beginning...
welcome to the most addicting hobby ever ! lol
Good luck with ur set up/future plans

Thanks for the comments guys.

Anyone know if the stuff on my rocks is alive or dead by looking at those pics? Also, what is it?

I used to have FW as well. Sw is now my passion. Love it and will never go back. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

Taken some more pics with the new lights on. The inner section for the actinics isn't working though so some invest will be required to work out why, but seeing as it was donated for free I cant complain ;)

I also need to shorten the inlet and outlet pipes on the skimmer to set it back a bit.

sexy new light fixture. lookin good. the stuff on the rocks is either dead, dying, or alive. Either way, I'd prune as much as you can manually. It's the kind of stuff that will die during the cycle, or thrive. Either way, get rid of it.

Theres alot of different ways to cycle, lights on, lights off, skimmer on, skimmer off. Personally, it all works and it will cycle no matter what. I go with lights off, skimmer on.

With that set up, you should be able to get a really nice, diverse little reef!

Keep us posted and remember, pictures are worth a thousand words!

The stuff on the rocks I think is alive, and more of it has appeared. Should I really remove it? If so why, as I dont know what it is?

Picked up 15 kg of LR today, £50 bargain :)

Ive got about 25 kg in total now. Ive tried to create some ledges and plenty of caves for when I finally get some creatures in there. What you all think?
