Can this beast turn into a Beauty?! I certainly hope so cause she wasn't cheap. I was planning on holding out for a green/smooth purple rim efflo (seen a few show up lately on extreme), but this one caught my eye so I nabbed it from DD today. The bright blue tips with brown center isn't something I've seen often in efflos.

Anybody else ever pick up one like this? If so how did it morph?

I don't know what it is with these corals but they sure seem to brown out easy. I purchased a purple tip one from my fish store and it's mostly brown hoping it will come back someday.

btw, i also wanted to add that mine has some brown on the base of the plate when i got it and the green and dark blue is holding but the baby blue is becoming more faint-white for me. an experienced reefer friend thats been in the hobby for more than 15 years told me to keep it on the bottom and as long as your water is clean it will color up.

It took me awhile to get the purples to come out. Now along with purples Im getting uwanted green tints.

Ya I've got a spot for it, off on the side of my tank (next to my green efflo), where it just gets t5 light no halide. I've owned a few different morphs over the years. Typically I've found they aren't "nuke" for best colour corals.

In terms of wild efflo/solis

It's really hit or miss, they seem to be some what seasonally collected from what I can tell.

Lately I've seen a fair number on extremecorals, but I have been to slow to grab the really nice ones. The one I nabbed from DD is the first one I have seen on there, and I believe blue zoo has them now and then. I can't see I've seen any on any other places.

Mari-cultured efflos are coming in with what ever vendors are bringing in I believe Bali plugs. I've seen them on extreme, divers den (one on sale right now), happy, most places will have them. Typically though from what I've seen the maricultued plugs come in w/vertical instead of horizontal growth and are the "blue rim green/brown" center morph.

No...a.loripes is more branching, I still think its an efflo. grown under differently conditions.

Ditto, the first one in the top of the thread hasn't been in aquarium conditions so the growth is really even. I've seen a lot of purple tip efflos like the one in the picture. Once it gets settled in, it will be a normal purple rim efflo but still rather sweet coral when it is happy. Efflos are really sensitive to parameter changes so stability is key with these guys.

Ya, it's an effo. No doubt about it. heck i've got it touching a "smooth" edge efflo like pictured above and it doesn't care. As far as swings ect.. I've found efflos to be the single hardiest acros I've ever owned over the years. Not sure why they are listed as "most difficult" under most peoples acro rankings in terms of difficulty.
