I've got the 45g, need your help, input, advice!

Bang!!! Na, just kidd'n.

Hope your clipp'n some pixs as you go, J.

What do you drill with J, a hole saw or a diamond drill bit and dremmel?

That's not funny.... Things din't acutally turn out the way I thought they would tonight.... I've been working on a way to try to tell Jessica about it ever since I cleaned up the small pile of glass in my garage. I just got done putting a bandaid on the gash I got in my finger from cleaning up the glass.

I hope you understand Jessica, I did everything by the book...I took every percaution I could before the drill bit touched the glass. It was lucky for me I was wearing a face sheild. I sometimes wonder why I do this, when things don't go the way I thought they would, I'm not left with much more than a pile of glass. It's only hapened once before.

Jason

That's too bad... sorry Jessica, really looked forward to seeing that Calfo overflow.

Def. puts an ! on the caution and safety precautions required when doing work with any glass.

Any similarities with this tank and the other tank?

you're kidding... it smashed? really?
you know, I've had that same earie feeling ever since I got that tank... he told me it was an AGA...

please don't feel bad Jason, I'm just glad that you weren't hurt worse! Hope your finger heals quickly.
I'm done then, I'm just going to find something to give my tank more flow, perhaps I'll hook up that old penguin power head.

I just had a feeling something was going to go wrong, I really did. I was up for a while last night with this weird worried feeling. Sorry I didn't get online yesterday to see your post, gonna give you a call.

got you good.... Really good.

Here's your pile of glass Jessica...

Everything I said was the truth...

That's not funny.... (and it wasn't)

Things din't acutally turn out the way I thought they would tonight....
(It didn't- I expected the tank to break)

I've been working on a way to try to tell Jessica about it ever since I cleaned up the small pile of glass in my garage.
(and I had to think of a way to break this to you...took a while.. I thought it too easy than to just post all the pics I took... and yes, I had a small pile of glass to clean up, if it had broke, it would have been a large pile of glass. And... )

I just got done putting a bandaid on the gash I got in my finger from cleaning up the glass.
(I did gash my finger, the glass chips in the tank had to be cleaned out somehow... I also had to pick out the plugs from the holes)

I hope you understand Jessica, I did everything by the book...I took every percaution I could before the drill bit touched the glass.
(I check all the documentation, and did it carefully step by step. I wore Eye protection and everything.)

It was lucky for me I was wearing a face sheild. I sometimes wonder why I do this, when things don't go the way I thought they would, I'm not left with much more than a pile of glass. It's only hapened once before.

(And Yes,I I do sometimes wonder... after your gone, I only have that small pile of glass to show...And yes, it only happened 1 time before... not this time...

Got you.

Jason

See that's the problem with you older people... is being a blossom good?

It was well worth it.

I'd have done it all for free for a glance at the look on her face...

What's worse... I'd do it again... :D

J

That the greatness about being a blossom you never really know what it means for sure it works in every situation.

Judging by the looks of the glass 'plugs', you must be using diamond tipped hole saws (or you have mastered the perfect dremel technique). Hand drill, approx what RPM?

Can def. see the back-side chipout in the pixs... keep-um coming!

Jason taught me how to drill one night on a scrap piece of glass in his basement.

I applied this knowledge and was able to drill out 4 29 gallon tanks wihtout breakage.

I found that the tricks to success are as follows.

1. do not apply pressure when drilling. let the bit do the work... even if it takes a long time.

2. COOLING IS EVERYTHING! I like to build a dam out of plumbers putty and fill it with water over the site of the cut.

3. drill bit speed needs to be moderate and not all out.

4. start the bit at an angle. then level it out to the material once a groove is started.

5. PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.....

All that from five minutes of instruction..... wow.

And all that only works if you have all the right characteristics line up... and just when you think you know what your doing...

Scott, Why all the interest? Are you putting in a sump?

Not that you can't be interested...

gotta get it out of the car first, Kevin's been at work since 4:30am, and it's a tad heavy for me to tackle alone, why get hurt or break the tank...

Ok, here's what I started with... Jessica fill in with the "Rest of the Story"

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/jmkarcz/IMG_4906.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
