Iwasakis 175w mh

Since this bulb puts out more PAR than any other 175, is it the best light for growth in corals? Or the kelvin range makes it useless ? can you please also give some input for the 175 reeflux ? which one you would get?

I don't use 175w. That being said, if I did, the only bulb I would use is the iwasaki on an electronic ballast. Nice looking bulb with par that rivals, even betters, many 250w lamps.

I have used them in the past, all I can say is it was one of the best 175w bulbs I ever used, and I went thru alot of them. I didnt have a par meter but I did have a lux meter and they did out perform most of the 250w that I tested.

I ran three on this tank. Loved them, but wish they were slightly bluer. I have a friend that runs one under a lumenarc and for whatever reason his seems a bit bluer. Same E ballast.

They were the 14k's they had a great color to them

thanks thoma, dimitry. Thoma yours seems more brighter than dimitris, but also more white. What wattage and what kelvin ware those bulbs? also dimtri did you have any actinicks running ?:thumbsup:

No prob. 14k Aqua2's (Iwasaki's) I would never run 6500's again like back in the day, unless it was coupled with a radium.

That setup was a stock 180 with three 150 de saki 14k's slightly overdriven with aro 150/175 ballasts (technically making them a bit whiter/less blue than they would otherwise) with two six foot vho's (not sure if they were on for the pic or not, probably were)

My friends se 175 saki 14k seems bluer but its in a lumenarc

the se are also alot less hot spotty because they aren't jammed in those de reflectors. I actually had an issue with those little 150's creating bleach zones in the brightest portion of the reflector. go se.

thanks fellas, the 15 iwasaki with some actinicks looks like the best combination, for maximum growth and color. I would use 2x175 15 k + 2x65w T6 blue actinicks for a 75 gallon.

I used 3 175 watt Iwasaki bulbs on a 180 gal tank ,the growth is as good as you would want from any reef tank.

I think what you are planning on doing with the 175 15k's over a 75 gallon with supplementation will work very well. You definitely won't have a lack of light problem. I really wish Iwasaki made a greater diversity of bulbs in the bluer end of the spectrum in higher wattages, I would be buying some right now.
