There has been a bit of a snag though regarding the new house--the deal fell through on the day of the closing.
It seems the mortgage broker I had never read the fine print in the appraisal the bank ordered and due to a few comments made by the appraiser, the bank backed out of the deal at the last minute. Add to that the fact that the seller of that house turned out to be a real schmuck and wouldn't negotiate any further with us to help arrange another loan, and we decided to back out completely. So we're buying a different house, the first one we actually looked at back in May, and we're getting a much better deal. Problem is we're now closing August 14th. And the situation will probably end up costing me $3,000-$4,000 in lost attorney fees, lodging and I'm having trouble getting my earnest money back.
Anyway, we've been staying in a Bed & Breakfast meanwhile, really nice place and innkeepers. Give me a call there and we'll talk about the big guy.
