January nTOTM - Junkitu's Mushroom House

Thanks tsmonrad and Findland! Good luck with your tanks.

EZ - I will post the call for entrants for this month's contest sometime this week. Stay tuned.

That is just ridiculous.
I second the voice above that you show what can be done sticking with low tech. That's much more of an artform than thousands of bucks on a huge tank with huge lights, etc...
so you've got that skimmer in their--and do you have the stock lighting with your own choice of those lights?
Wow that's a fabulous tank.

Thanks Doglover_50! BTW, do you have a favorite breed? I'm partial to Porties (aka Portuguese Water Dogs). ;)

I think big and small tanks can be artforms but different skills and strategies apply.

I made a slight mod to the stock lighting. I'm still using the stock ballasts but put in 2x40W bulbs in place of the stock 2x32W.

There actually is a fair bit of technology associated with my tank:
- Sapphire Aquatics skimmer
- NanoCustoms ICA 2.0 chiller
- Premium Aquatics Lighthouse Controller w/ temp and pH probes
- 2 heaters (75W and 100W)

That's just about all I can fit under the hood :)

I'm glad you like the tank and thanks for posting.

The slide show shows tremendous progression.

Just out of curiosity, why run the skimmer only at night?
It was fun putting the slide show together and really seeing how much my tank has changed. Sometimes it's hard to keep track from month to month but the pictures tell it all.

I run the skimmer only at night to keep the heat generated at a minimum. The chiller fan is kinda loud and I'd rather not have it running while I'm working.

I really like the way certain coral look during the dawn and dusk cycles of my tank so I thought I'd post some pics. Here are some shots of the tank under actinics. I hope you like them.

Shrimps playing in the zoa and paly garden.

I'll try to take an FTS shot under actinics and post it as well.

Great job- I keep coming back to be insprired for my 29g. I am having trouble finding some of colorful coral I want to put in my BC. My LFS tell me it is difficult to get the supercolored Zoo's, etc... Where did you purchase yours from?

Thanks! Most of my zoas came from www.atlantisaquarium.net. They're my LFS and often have some really beautiful stuff. I also recently picked up some cool frags from www.ultimatefrags.com but it sounds like they may have gone out of business. Be patient and be picky. Real estate is so limited in our nanos that you want to make sure you don't settle.

Congrats!

...just goes to show what can be done with "just" those all in one tanks eh?

Thanks icenine! Your posting on this thread means a lot to me. As I mentioned earlier on this thread, I'm not sure that I would have taken the plunge into my nano if it wasn't for your tank. It's too bad EZ didn't join last month so we could've had that Aquapod showcase.

That is one amazing tank!

I'm in the planning/learning stages of a nano myself. Your tank gives me hope!

Well done!

You did more than only a mushroom house. I like your tank, colorful tank.

Thanks. I appreciate it. You're tank is amazing as well. I really like your aquascaping and selection of coral.
