Japanese Yellow hawkfish. - Cirrhitichthys aureus

OranguTang,

Thank you for your inquiry. The Japanese Yellow hawkfish is a peaceful and extremely hardy species. It spends most of its time perched among corals and rock work. Please contact us with any other questions or comments.

I have a red hawk and he's been a model citizen. He's tank mates with a pistol shrimp, skunk cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, coral banded shrimp and 2 peppermint shrimps. The yellow looks less opportunistic. Each has it's own personality and will be hit and miss. Buy on the smaller side and make sure you have all the inverts you want in and on the larger side. Feed him rrequently and more meaty foods. Mine's a pig!

OranguTang,

Thank you for your response. We agree with bbehring, that the Japanese Yellow Hawkfish should be safe with most specimens. However, as stated, it may feed on crustaceans or other smaller inhabitants. The Japanese Yellow Hawkfish is best kept in a tank with larger inverts and it should be well fed.

Thanks for the info :) Would there be a problem adding a large cleaner shrimp after? Or should I have it in there before the fish?

OranguTang,

Thank you for your question. We would recommend putting the Cleaner Shrimp in your aquarium before the Hawkfish. However, this does not guarantee the fish will leave the shrimp alone completely. If we can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact us.
