Hi All,

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read, and provide input on what will be my 3rd, and best so far, Reef Tank journal.
I appreciate all comments, tips and ideas, as information sharing is what built this hobby.
This will be my first post on RC, I have alread read, and re-read the TOTM's etc, and they have always inspired me. To have a system with half the color of those would be a dream come true for myself.
I come from Down under, Australia, and we have some uniques corals here, but lack things like ricordea yumas etc.
This is because have a ban on importing inverts, and also unfortunalty a lot of our good scolliemias australias etc never stay local, but head over seas on the export market.

Keeping SPS was once basically limited keeping SPS alive as long as possible, with most tanks featuring browned out masses of SPS, but has now moved on to modern scientific methology enabling us to grow and proporgate some of the most difficult animals on Earth to maintain in captivity.

Anyway, that basically sums up my new system, that is, too grow, maintain, and proporgate the colorful SPS.

I plan on having minimal fish in this system, with minimal live rock, to enable easy maintenance of ultra low nutrient levels.

This will be the only area of Reefkeeping that will be new to me, as my previous SPS systems have had heavy bio-loads, including an abundance of fishes.

One thing that always sticks with me though, is that the only nutrients that go into a reeftank are what YOU PUT IN, ie. fish food, etc etc.

Anyway, Hi to all and I look forward to spending time here!

The Corner of all my reeftank stuff.. Yet to be unpacked after 2-3 years storage!

The No frills tank stand fram, (still to have joists and ply down for sump and display). I have opted for this sytem to be in my basement of my house for multiple reasons, Nameyly it is always cool down there, has access to cool air from under the house, and it doesn't matter if it a bit messy! (It's out of sight of the missus anyway!)

Anyway, quotes for tank are coming, as with a new RO/DI unit from Pete down at PSI filters, And I will plumb a sink up downstairs so i can wash parts etc

Small update. Slowly progressing...

Reeflections Aquarium http://www.reeflectionsaquarium.com/ will complete this tank build. Ernie is always great to deal with, and is going to get in some really nice SPS once this tank is running ;)
Tank due early next year.
In the meantime;

Water storage sorted

Sump shelf just needs some marine ply and a layer of foam and that can be installed

Sink and drain plumbed up to downstairs, and RO unit from Pete down at PSI filters http://www.psifilters.com.au/ installed and plumbed.

Dusted off some old gear aswell.... Nowadays a lemonade can replaces the beer can.. (nearly 1.5 years no beer, and I dont even drink lemonade!)

Also, the new LEDs i plan on running... this is a 50w 6500k one...

img7055ot.jpg

img7056r.jpg

you can get them in blue, 6500k, 10000k, 14000k, 15000k etc ranging from 10-200w. cheap power ;)

The SPS farm lighting frame. I have 2 x 380-400nm fittings coming, and 3 more 480nm. plus may look at some 600nm red down the track, but for now this will get system cycled and running. :)

Should have used a 140mm beam at the front instead of left over 290mm LOL. Trimmed it down, as this access to the sump is always an issue, and its best to have easy access.

Now all I need is a tank and a sump. :) just made 400ltrs of RO, and am also soaking some rock that i just had in a box for 3 years lol

Xmas came early... Got my SPS tank last night. A big thanks to Ernie from Reeflections for organising a fantastic tank build! :)

And this brings us up to today. I usually run my TJ an Australian forum, but it is getting kind of slow over there, so I thought I'd put it up on here for a greater variety of experience and more reefers to share experiences with!
I am due for an update soon, as I have a new rainbow symphallia, a gold torch, some rainbow acan, some rainbow monti and I have recently added 2 more yellow tangs, and a juvenille emporer angel, which I am keeping a close eye on him/her with my LPS/clams atm.
My friend here owns an LFS within 2 mins of my house, so if I catch it nip my corals or clams he is off to a new home lol.
I also run a 30"x24"x24" softy tank that houses a 10" blue squamosa clam, under a 20w 20000k and a 10w 480nm LED flood light.
The tank also houses a variety of softies, LPS, and some NPS corals.
