Amazing collection of sps!!! You are off to a great start with this tank for sure.

I like your large chip LEDs. Did you make the fixtures, have them made up, or buy them from a manufacturer?

Thanks guys! Spencer - You can purchase these in an unimaginable variation of color, wattage, color temp, etc etc from Ebay! They are also IP56 rated!
Gig'em - these are all 10 or 20w fixtures. They are cool to touch without fans!
I do however have some in my sealed hood above my cube, and they become warm to touch when enclosed in, so I added a couple of computer fans to hood, and now they are cool to touch aswell. :)

I think you've inspired me to use these LED flood lights as the light source for my current build. Which eBay seller did you buy the lights from? I have been searching eBay for a few days now and have found all kinds of results. I'm always a little skeptical of buying directly from China from a seller whose description of the item is in broken English....

Also, how have the colors of your corals fared under these flood lights?

Those are some amazing corals and I am extremely jealous of the selection and variety you have in your tank. I do like the LED floodlights as well.

I just purchased off any seller in asia with a decent feedback score. There is no problems. The only ones i had problems with were ultra cheap 'cool white' colored 10w that were really cheap, (like $8 each), and 2 out of 4 failed within the first 4 weeks.
None of my blues, 12000K, 20000K or UV LEDS have failed.
But due to the 2-3week lead time in arrival, it may pay to buy a spare of each type you plan to use.
As far as colors I have been noticing a few things lately.
The deeper water species... (clams/acropora - (I'm aware clams can be found in shallows as with acropora, but these are also found in water 5mtrs plus deep) are fine and really colorful with just white and blue LED. (I run 4 different colour temps of white, and also <400nm UV)
HOWEVER - over my refugium, i have a white only (20000k x 10w), and i would say only under just that light, sarcopython sp. and various mushrooms i have down there did not expand fully!
It appears that because they are from shallow, turbid lagoons, they require more red and yellow spectrum.
I noted this as a couple of nights ago I installed a 24w energy saver flurescent lamp over the refugium, to see if it would increase macro growth and mushroom expansion.... and voila! The very next day the sarcos, mushrooms were all very well expanded and happy looking!
The macro is still to be confirmed, but after a month under just a 10w 20000k there was minimal growth. Time will tell I guess
So to summarise, SPS, clams, LPS are fine under white/blue color sectrum only, and have excellent color. Softys need yellow and red. :)

Awww thanks Chris! We do have some good corals here in Australia, but we also have strict import laws which prevents us getting a lot of stuff from overseas. All of us reefers here are extremely jealous of the florida rics and yumas you guys get, (over here a simple orange ricordea sells for $200), and also all your clams. A good clam here sells for $350-$400 IF YOU CAN GET ONE!!
Most of ours get exported, and us locals rarely get the chance to buy them. :(

Cool, thanks for the info! I bet it is annoying not being able to buy everything, but I bet buying your sps must be pretty cheap with the great barrier reef and south pacific so close.

hi, I was looking into those same lights and was wondering how many 15000k lights I would need for a 75gallon standard dimension tank?

BTW awsome tank and you have definitely will be getting these lights all because of your tank

beautiful SPS! I love the Shallow tank!

Thanks Alavaster! I will try to make an update this weekend.

I am trying to read one tank journal a night one here and subscribe to my favorite! I will check out yours later. :)

Um the SPS can be quite cheap I guess. All of my colonies cost between $40-$60. I dont think I have seen an SPS coral for sale here for more than $70.
We do get the occassional bargain, I walked into a local LFS last weekend and there was a small 5-10 frag sized piece of bright green and pink strawberry shortcake for $25! I thought to myself I better take that before someone else does! Last week everyone had strawberry shortcake here, every LFS got at least one colony, and they were all priced between $40-$70. (the LFS's advertise and display there coral shipments on Facebook lately lol.
Me and a friend have have 6 nice Scollymia Australias coming down from the great barrier reef tmrw for a good price, (between $40-$70 AUD each, they sell between $70-$350 here depending on quality). They hopefully arive tmrw!
And I also have 3 gold torches coming in another shipment this week, (tank grown frags i think), and 2 T.Maxima clams in a 3rd shipment!
So a few nice goodies this week!
But yes I know reefers that would literally give there left thumb for a bunch of florida yumas, or caribean photosythesetic gorgs, and those amazingly cheap crocea clams!!
Some of the American SPS is mind blowing aswell, especially the tank grown and hardened stuff.
Wild colonies are a bit hit and miss.... they often change in captivity, from what they looked like in the wild.

That's nice! Corals like that here in the states, especially in the middle like Texas, would reach over $100 to several hundred a piece. I assume you're not allowed to go to tide pools and collect your own frags and fish? Do you know if you're allowed to buy corals in Australia and take them out of the country? I would love to bring some home with my when I visit Australia.

vary nice setup..u have a great selection..how are the leds working for u? do ur corals seem be be responding well to those lights?

Thanks Chris! I'd say 3 x 10w blue and 2 x 20w white would be more than ample if you were planning on keeping SPS!
You may want to increse the blue, or white depending on taste of course!

Most areas in Australia are national parks, and they also have laws preventing collection on many species of fish and corals.
The great barrier reef where most of our corals come from is also between 40-70kms off shore!

Cheers mate. The LED's are great. as explained above, not so good for morphs but the SPS love it!

I can honestly say, that all of those SPS corals in your pictures are $175+ here in North Carolina....since I am in the process of building an SPS heavy 110 rimless, I cant even tell you how jealous I am of that.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

You all inspired me to take a couple of shots... I played around with some Actinic only pics aswell..
