Jawfish Den

For my new 40b macro tank, I wanted to get a pearly jawfish. But, I did not really want to have a deep sand bed. My sand will probably end up being ~2" deep. So, I would like to hear all of your opinions on my little idea i have here. I found some pictures of people making jawfish dens out of PVC, then disguising them with rubble. Something like this:

My question it, do you think a pearly jawfish could be happy in one of these?

Thanks.

I don't think they will like the first too much. They want to be able to design their home themselves. They also like the ability to add a backdoor as emergency escape.

The second may work as a base from where they can build.

I would just make a pile of coarse gravel and some finer sand around the rock you want him under (leave an opening as starting point). He will use the gravel to build his home. You may need to offer some resupplies when he runs out but it isn't required to provide a deep sand bed over the whole tank.

I have a dusky living in a spot of my tank where the sand is maybe 1". He has gotten every snail shell and rubble he could. He is dead center which is perfect. He's under a rock and set his borrow accordingly. I love him, so personable
