Jay's 75G build while the 90G is in limbo

My dilemma is this: I want to move before the year is up into a bigger place. I've been planning a 90G for a while, but I've been moving so slowly on it that I'm now faced with the choice to either set it up for 6-8 months, or just wait till I find a new place and set it up once at the new place. I wish I could buy another place, and I'll be running the numbers to see if that's even possible, but it's safe to assume that I'll at least be renting a bigger place.

Thoughts Guys and Gals? Wait? Set up something smaller? I've already got a 12G Aquapod and a 20H holding coral, but I really would like to give the coral more space if I can. I have a 58G just waiting to be used...hmmmm...

Give me your opinions please :)
 
I say a 40B should be a good size.. Can always be used as a sump or QT afterwards...
 
Of all the size tanks out there under a 90G, the 40B is one I don't already own, so if I'm looking at the same footprint, I think I'd just do the 58G with the 30L sump I already have.

And yeah, anything bigger than the 12&20H is going to be difficult. I like the idea of getting into a new place and cycling the 90G while I move everything else...but that's just wishful thinking, lol
 
So I've been tossing the idea with some friends on setting up the 58G, but I still have the original problem I had: I don't have a stand for it. It's the older Oceanic with the corner overflow drilled on the bottom.

Anyone have a stand that would work for it? Ma wifey said that the 58G is the minimum I have to set up asap, so I have to listen to her ;)
 
LMAO!!!! I sent you a txt... Was told to remove the pictures for some reason :rolleyes: Thats the way I looked at it also...
 
i wish my gf would say: you have to setup a minimum 58 gallon setup asap! i would run to do it. how about we build a stand for that tank? My woodworking skills suck but i bet i can do a vtec swap on it from your crv and make that baby purr, coffee can muffler tip too....

Haha, some of us have it really good...My wife is friggin awesome.

A couple friends would definitely be able to build a stand for me, but I figured I'd ask here first and I'm still debating on the 58G or finding a 40B with stand...Idk.

The vtec sounds like a sweet swap! Let's do it ;)
 
I don't know if I would go through the effort of setting one up, then tearing it down. But what I would do is..........................:dance:

plan, plan, plan, plan.....

I mean drawings, start buying the parts when they are on sale, look for tear down threads, figure out all the livestock to confirm compatibility and equipement needs, plumbing requirements, etc.....

When it gets closer to the move, you can get some live rock and cook it or start cycling water so it's ready to go after the build. Or, make your own rock and let the ph leach out over a couple of months?

This is actually a great opportunity to plan and prepare a dream tank. Most of us :headwally: start setting up with a half baked plan and figure out the rest after we have fish in it. Then we pay for it dearly later on.

The only reason I feel the need to set something up is that I have a 12G and 20H that are JAM packed and they really need some space to thrive for at least 6 months.

If I had a week to set up, I'd already be up. I've got everything supplywise to set up the 90. I've been doing exactly what you suggested for the past 5-6 months, lol...I've owned this gorgeous 90G for at least 5 months.

I've got dry rock ready to be "cooked" and I plan to use LC during the cycling process to pull all the phosphate out.

Time is the only thing I've been short of. Research - I've definitely been doing.

Now my other dilemma is if I do the 58G, should I make my leds work for that size, or just use 2 150 MH fixtures? Omg...at least I'm brainstorming enough that I decided to use ma 90G stand for the 58G for now, and build another stand for the 90G for the new place ;) *sneaky sneaky*
 
Bump!

For softies and zoas, my options are:

40B with a hob or a 58G with sump (size TBD)? Keep in mind of the 6-8month temporariness of this tank.

For lighting, I can either make my leds for my 90 and string it along between the 12 and the 40/58, or I can do an led fixture for the 12, and run 2 150W MH's on the 40/58.

Thoughts? Fight!! ;)
 
Instead of starting a new thread, I figured I'd post an update of the quick build. Maybe I'll ask a mod to change the title...

Joroscoe - thanks for such a generous PIF! Without it, I would still be wondering what to do.
