Hi John

Hi John

I well have to put some pictures together and start a build thread. I think you should do one to. Your tank is Amazing

About to buy the 28g Nano cube with led's from Marine Depot. This is my first tank. What upgrades and essentials should I also purchase?

Thanks

Steve

IMHO you should consider buying a tunze 9002 skimmer, it works marvelously and help to keep the water quality always great!

The Tunze 9002 is a GREAT skimmer! If you want to keep your media basket in the center compartment, you might consider an HOB version, I highly recommend the AquaMaxx HOB-1 for about the same price

BTW the tunze 9002 is super silent, something that in my case is essential, since my apartment is small and i don't like noise coming out of my aquarium.

What about a "no fish" cube?

What about a "no fish" cube?

Hey guys. All the tanks on here look great. I've always liked the 28 gal. JBJs, but I really like them now that they offer the LED hood. Gotta love the shimmer lines, not buying bulbs for 10 years, lower heat, and a lower electric bill!

I definitely want to get one of these when I move. What would you guys do (or not do) for a 28 cube that was just going to be a bare bottom, LPS, SPS and zoas, with a few crabs and maybe a starfish? Would it even be worth getting a skimmer? I'd probably still want to run carbon, but what about Phosphate remover?

I have kept many kinds of saltwater fish over the years so I don't feel compelled to have a bunch of fish in a small aquarium anymore. I'm more interested in perfect water quality and not growing algae around my corals again. I'd like the cube to be my coral only tank and probably get another tank for fish and coral. Any thoughts? Aside from chemicals building up, I would think the water would stay very clean. I wouldn't be opposed to adding a skimmer if the consensus was that it would help.

Just started running mine with the 89 watt LED. Been up for about 2 weeks. Very little heat transfer from the lights. Temp in mine goes from 77.5 right before the bright lights go on. I leave them on for 6 hours than the temp is 79 or 79.5. I keep the house 72.

I'd be curious to hear what other's (with the same hood) temps are relative to the ambient room temp?

A couple updated pictures.

I took the picture of the gargonia about 12 hrs after adding it to the tank. I knew it was damaged when I bought it. Fragged it and put pieces a little lower hopefully for it to heal.

Newbie 28g hqi question - PLEASE HELP ME

Newbie 28g hqi question - PLEASE HELP ME

I have had my tank set up for bout 2 months now. My question is about the back of the tank. I know that you have 3 columns, middle is where water goes through media, filter. I know that side chambers have the return pumps in them, and water comes back into tank. Here is my question. My side chambers are always the same water level as the middle. When I went to LFS, their tanks always have lower water level in side chambers. They told me water level should be below the return pipes. I tried siphoning water out of side chamber, and when I do this, the middle chamber drops water level as well. Do I have a defective tank, or am I doing or thinking something completely wrong. I have the plastic media thing in middle. I was told to fill other chambers right next to middle with lr rubble, which I did. The chambers with the pumps just have water in them. Someone please help me!! Seems like the water that is above the pumps in side chambers is stale and just sits there.

I've caught shrimp and snails both crawling on my MP10 before eating algae, never had a fatality though. It has picked up a few molts before though :)

Anyone use a Aquafuge 2 Medium on the JBJ? What did you do about the pump? Since the fuge is bigger, i had to reroute the inlet pipe and loose one of the pumps. I'd like to get one that fits in the heater section, then a few pipes from home depot to "extend" the stock pipe.

And when the inlet pump looses power, it drains all the water. Any solution to that?

Check my build thread for pictures on the new fuge + how it fits or does not in the tank.

Do you guys prefer to keep the coraline growth on the back or leave it black? If black how do you keep it clean? I really want to leave mine black but I have growth all over it and it seems impossible to scrape it off, due to rock placement in some areas. Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

HQI owners, I want to add some blue or dawn/dusk to the tank. I currently run a 10k Ushio (its a nice white), but feel I need a little blue to add the pop. Would you recommend going to a 14k Phoenix and run nothing else (and be able to keep SPS and promote growth), or add this nanotuners PC add ons? http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=409 Or get LED?

I'm running the 14k Phoenix + NanoTuners PC addon, but would like to drop all that and upgrade to LED eventually
