I have only had mine for 2 weeks. I modified it by cutting about 1 inch from the horizontal part of the intake tube and replacing the 'T' outflow with a 90 degree elbow. It is super quiet (cant hear it over the stock pumps). It has this neat elbow on the cup to attach a 1/2 inch flex hose and plumb back into the pump compartment so it won't overflow onto the carpet. So far I am happy.

Pudge_cat, running the same HOB, and just like everyone else, in the same location (just nice how it pulls from the designated skimmer chamber and returns back into it and half into the left side sump).

1 question, I've already gotten used to the sound, of course, with kids and grandparents living in the house, the background noise is nothing. What I am curious about, is micro bubbles? I guess each time I turn it off and move it so that I can get to the intank media basket, it sometimes doesn't micro bubble and other times, I guess it just sits perfectly enough to drop bubbles into the left side sump? WHAT does the 90 vs. the T do for you? did it help or increase the bubbles? I've thought about maybe fitting a sponge into the right side chamber in the aquamax so that as water flows out the exit, it has to go through a sponge, but Im worried that the flow would be slowed down enough to raise the level in the skimmer and change how much water it holds.

What have you done, do you have micro bubbles, do you now have less or more than original layout of aquamaxx?

Another quick question for you all, since seems we all end up with the same stuff.

I have a mj1200 running one side, it routes from oem location, up, out and through a current 1/15 chiller back up and into the tank via the oem fitting through the tank, with a IM spin return.

The other side has a minijet 606 running full (108gph) into the oem return with another IM spin return, both running at the same time pushing I guess about 320gph (its more than one stock pump, the center basket overflows when anything is packed into it, even though its a intank media basket), I pulled the mj600 from one side and replaced it with the minijet606 for that reason, to try to slow flow into the media basket so it does what it should.

I also have the aquamax hob-1 as well as a mp10wes in the tank (40-50% flow), Im listing all the movement so that those of you that have ATO's know my "water agitation", I have a tunze osmolator and due to the limited size for water storage in the stand (chiller is NOT in stand, its to the left of stand) I currently have a trimmed 1gallon water jug. I evap between 1/4 and 5/8 a gallon a day (seems excessive). I live in San Diego, and am inland a bit, but I loose this to evap with 70-75 ambient room temp, and water temp running 78ish (chiller DOESNT turn on yet, wait till summer).

Can anyone confirm evap to a 28 LED pro? It seems excessive to me, but rather than stress over it (what am I really gonna do about it, the tank is running great, why change anything), but for peace of mind, how much do you evaporate?

I just ordered a 2.5 gallon 8"x8" cube to make it so it can go a couple of days, but man, I was hoping I could take off a week or so with 2.5 gallons and have some left over. I suppose for vacation, I could just use a 5 gallon bucket on the outside, since I wont be there to enjoy, but hell, 32oz to 50oz a day without HQI?

Does anyone clean the rear chambers of the tank or just leave it alone?

I noticed mine has something like sand laying on the bottom and some sponge looking things growing everywhere.

haha i did the same thing last month! I looked back there for the first time in a year, and saw a 1 inch bed of brown sandy stuff. After getting it all out, my tank cleared up a LOT.

Does anyone use dosing pumps for their JBJ ? If so how do you go about scheduling the pump to dose daily and then do a water change. Wouldn't the water change increase the stable levels. Just curious.

One downside to the tank design is the small areas of the back chambers. Not the easiest area to clean at all. The two chambers next to the overflow are particularly messy.

Trying to figure out how it gets so bad when there's always floss in the media basket. :headwally:

+1, it's easy to just shove a hose down their and siphon out gunk during WC's.

If you are running both pumps with the stock media basket, or your media is clogging flow through the InTank version it can cause sediment to build up in those chambers when the overflow "spills" over the sides of the media basket. That's the only time I have noticed mine getting much buildup in there. If 100% of the water is flowing through the floss/basket, I get very little to no buildup of sediment.

Makes sense. I run both pumps simultaneously and unless I clean the floss daily, the media basket doesn't take long to overflow over the basket sides.

I just set up my 28G nanocube this past weekend and I'm trying to get everything dialed in. I'm having an issue keeping the water level where I want it to be in the back compartment. The water level on the two outer chambers where the return pumps are is only high enough to barely cover the two MJ pumps. I have the skimmer pump in the center chamber, but I'm going to be moving it to the right-center chamber so that the output is in the very center chamber. Any ideas? I've been trying to read through the entire thread, but 3 splits is a lot to read!

Curious about this as well. I was given a tank by my very generous cousin and it came with the two upgraded MP120, a remora skimmer, and the phosban 150. Where and how do i place all these pumps and items?

The center 3 chambers are constant level and will never go down. The display tank is also constant level. The only thing that will change is water level in the outside two pump chambers. If they are low, you need to add water to the tank. Ideal level is even with or just below the constant level chambers.

Did you get two MJ1200's or two MP10's? Placement varies greatly depending on the answer... The 150's can easily hang on the back of the tank, and the skimmer as well.

In my tank, both the skimmer and reactor pumps are in the larger "skimmer" chamber of the constant volume area. It's not a requirement obviously, just worked out well with my setup.

I run GFO in one (either Phosban or BRS HC GFO) and carbon in the other (BRS ROX0.8).
