;), before he thinks that the aquamax powerhead is fitting in that skimmer chamber, that the skimmer motor is in the hang on back unit, but sounds like the smaller powerhead that runs the reactors is in the chamber. Trying to fit that sicce syncra 1.5 in the skimmer chamber would be rather hard.

Agreed, the HOB-1 pump is inside the skimmer itself, only an intake tube is submerged in the skimmer column. The MJ400 running the reactors is below that tube in the same column.

There are at least a few people running a similar setup (same skimmer and reactors) but using one of the stock returns split off with a y-connector. This wasn't an option on my tank because I run a chiller with one of the stock returns already.

I need to replace my Phoenix 14k and was thinking of a radium 20k or xm 20k. I've heard that there has been problems with the radium and the ballast that comes with the hqi jbj so just wanted to ask everyone's opinion.

I tried the 20k, the color was WAY more white. Not sure if was a direct connection, but even after slowly introducing the new bulb I saw a lot of bleaching and went back to the Phoenix 14k after 3 months.

Pulled the trigger - ordered a LED intermediate from Drs. Foster/Smith. Sold my 240 FOWLR last Sept, have also had a 110 reef setup in the past as well.

Love the free stand with the tank too, and no shipping.

The final straw was finding out that a saltwater store had opened up 10 min from my house, they have an awesome frag setup going in there.

Good thing I kept a 1/2 bucket of salt and a bunch of misc supplies when I sold the 240!

Welcome to the club! Post up your own build thread once you get the tank and start it up. :)

Plenty of build threads out there, lots of good reading. Looked up what an MP10 was, jeez those are big $$$! So the tank comes with two small powerheads that are run off the built-in wavemaker, but from what I've read if they both run at once the overflow can't handle it?

If not a MP10, then something like the Hydor Koralia Nano inside the tank for more circulation? One or two, and which size?

Ordering a AquaEuro Nano 2 skimmer, want to add on the pumps too. Who knows maybe I'll end up with $149 worth of stuff for free shipping....

anyone have any report/info on the JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Cube LED Aquarium - (89 Watt Advanced LED)?

want to go nano, need something that can go SPS/clam
HAS TO be "factory clean" in looks, as it will go on our kitchen bar.
it's $700 but if i have to pay double the cost, so be it... :)

thanks

Not sure exactly what info you're looking for. Several of us have the advanced LED 28 Nano. I am having good success with a mixed reef. As far as SPS I'm keeping birdsnest, sunset montipora, green cup coral, and purple haze montipora. Lighting doesn't seem to be a big issue in these tanks, you just have to be diligent about water changes in such a small tank if you want to keep SPS. The tank is a great shape and size and is well designed. If you're looking for an LED nano it's a good option. If you have more specific questions feel free to ask.

Here is the NC28 with a rapid retro. Mayjong, you could possibly look into picking up one used on the cheap and do a retro kit. (Cough) mine (cough) do you remember selling me the rock. This will allow you to control the color temp of the LEDs. Nanotuners used to make the prefabed heat sinks for NC28s but I bet with some encouragement rapid would start to make heat sinks to fit the NC line since they make them for the BC.

I have a pro led and was curious how I should run my lights. It's in our master bedroom and we usually are up by 7am and sleeping by midnight. Ideally I wouldn't want any lights to up while we are sleeping but the nicest lighting while we are up in e room (7am-8am and 7pm-midnight)

thanks-

looking for info on skimmer (that fits with lid on)
i'll be using center chamber for chaeto (big fan of it)
what skimmer is going to work for me?

Run them while you are awake, it's just fine. I run mine 3-11p.

also-
anyone have a pic/diagram of the rear compartment set-up (heater, chaeto, skimmer placement?)
thanks!

I posted one just above in this thread, just scroll up.

also-do i need a seperate light for my (converted) fuge? (thinking nanoglow)

thanks

Yes, you need a separate light (i.e. nanoglow) but IMO you don't have enough space in a media basket to get any benefits from cheato. Works great in a big sump on a larger tank, but on this setup you are better off running ChemiPure Elite, GFO, or a reactor.

also-
is there a mod that needs to be done to the tunze9002? (besides cutting the suction cup off) does the collection cup need to be replaced? and does it have to be installed in the center section?
i should have asked for pics/diagrams of the back of one that has a tunze installed...
thanks!

HQI 2x18 PC retro ballast?

HQI 2x18 PC retro ballast?

Does anyone know which workhorse 22 ballast was used for this kit? I found 3 different ballast. The video on youtube said to use the workhorse 22 but they didn't mention if it was the 120volt or the 277volt.

I know they went out of business (Nanotuners) and the kits are not for sale anymore but the parts are found everywhere. I tracked down all the parts for the retrofit but I am stuck on which ballast to use. 2x18 = 36 watts the workhorse 22 maximum power is 35watts. :mtool:

Longtime lurker, first time poster here.

Just joined the JBJ 28g club - I got the call this morning from my LFS that my tank is in (LED Advanced). Unfortunately, I won't be able to do much with it until the weekend, as I have some prep work to do in the room the tank is going in first.

Some great info and amazing tanks by the people in this thread. Looking forward to learning from and contributing to the various discussions.

Build thread incoming, hopefully by early next week!

Cheers,
CF

got it, even though i like it, i'm still trying to stay away from anything sticking up over the top of the tank.
thanks!

The cup of the Tunze is going to stick up over the top of the tank too. Yes the collection cup needs to be replaced, and you will have to remove the cup to open the lid. It only fits in the center chamber, so you lose your media basket.
