JBJ Arctica Chiller install question

Hello, just got my hands on a 1/3hp Arctica chiller but it only came with one size hose barb elbows to attatch to a feed pump. I also noticed they arent standard barbed elbows in that they have a tiny flare at the very bottom on the non barbed end. What I'd like to know is if I can substitute a standard 90 degree elbow and just instert the rubber gasket over that instead of using the supplied elbow. I'd like to set this thing up using PVC and not vinyl tubing so a different fitting is a necessary change.. Anyone with experience with this thing would be helpful. thanks!

No you can just replace with a standard 90 elbow because the flared end is the sealing point. I have a much bigger unit and had a hard time getting the supplied elbows to seal & once I did I will never loosen then EVER again. Also using vinyl tube is less restrictive.

I plumbed mine directly to my OF pipe feeding to my sump & loving it.

wow good idea on the overflow pipe! thanks for the heads up.... interesting design, i guess it keeps people buying fittings from them and not home depot lol

Here's what I did

And my skimmer & reactors.....ignore the electrical tape, I had to use a smaller tube split in half to hold the larger one from kinking.
