JBJ ATO question

I bought a JBJ Auto Top Off and Tom Aquatics dosing pump from MD a couple of weeks ago and have a problem with it (the ATO) that a couple other folks on reefcentral also seem to have.

The ATO is set up with one float switch in the sump, and the other in the RO water reservoir, so that the outlet is energized when the switch in the sump is on and that in the reservoir is off.

The problem is that the unit will run correctly for a period of time, but at some point when the sump level is low (and the sensor indicator light on) the outlet stops being energized. This is accompanied by the orange indicator light on the ATO being dimmed but not turned off. When I toggle the mode switch on the ATO, the outlet indicator light returns to the normal level and the outlet is energized again.

The dosing pump works just fine when it is plugged directly into an outlet.

If this is a design flaw in the ATO, I don't want to go the trouble and expense of exchanging it, but any assistance in getting it to work correctly would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for your post, it does sound to me that there is something not working properly in the sensing mechanism, as you described it. I'll send an email to JBJ regarding this post and see if we can get a fix for it, sometimes it can be just a part. If there isn't a way to get it fixed I'll be more than happy to exchange the unit for you.

As it is the weekend I will probably not get a reply from them until Monday afternoon or so. I'll update you here on RC or you are more than welcome to contact me at 714.385.0080 Just ask for Walter.

Sorry for the inconvenience :-/

Hi,

I received a reply from JBJ technical support this was their reply...

sounds as though the ATO is timing out. The factory setting is for about 3 minutes and 45 seconds. It can be extended to 14 minutes.

When the power light goes dim, it means the ATO has timed out and must be reset by moving the sensor up/down or changing modes.

We get quite a lot of these emails with consumers who use aqua lifters since they exceed the factory setting.

Here is a link on how to change the duration time

Please let me know if does not resolve your situation.

Thanks Again,

Walter
