JBJ auto top off

I'm trying to set one up for my 24g AP. which pump do you guys recommend? And if you have a suitable used one for sale, please LMK. :)

I have a via aqua not sure of the # but it's about 300GPH. It's only 3 months old though but it's working fine. I have it in a 6G old salt pail with a ket float hooked up to a RODI. It works like a charm. But sump levels and pail level is about the same, 3' away so it required only a small pump. On my other setup same pail thing but I use and ehiem 1250 since its 15' away. Both work flawlessly so far and I mix in kalk in both of them. HTH

I have had success with a masterflex peristaltic pump I bought off ebay.

It has an adjustable flow rate, which I have turned all the way down. I slowly refill from a rodi storage tank. I evaporate between 5-7 gallons a day and have the pump set to run for 16hrs a day, so I guess its about .5 gallons/hr.

I run it through a pm kalk reactor. I feel the slow method is advantagous to a faster pump that relies on float switches.

i ended up getting a rio 200 pump for the jbj. about 300 gph. reservoir located about 5ft below the float sensor.

how do i remove the alarm? does it go off everytime it refills or something?

call jbj and they will tell you how to disable it. what you do is open it up and grab a pair of plyers and pull off this little blue cap. but they can explain it to you better so you do not ruin it.

bah...it turns out the rio 200 isn't strong enough to pull water upto the tank. =\ right now i have to place the reservoir next to the table near the tank in order for the pump to work. and you guys are right. the alarm is really annoying. one thing i don't get is it keeps beeping periodically if the vinyl hose has water in it? and once the air enters it, it stops. should i place the hose above the water line so it doesn't start a suction?

I set up the JBJ in my college dorm and I think I put the return hose submerged within the tank. Now I'm paranoid, here in NY, that the water from the tank might have suctioned into the reservoir after the pump goes on, lowering the salinity. Is this possible or am I worrying about nothing? The reservoir is placed on a table about 2'' higher than the tank itself.

The reason I ask is because when the auto top off was working, it kept beeping periodically, and when I lifted the return hose from the water to let the air enter, the alarm stopped beeping, now leading me to believe that the water from the tank was being suctioned out to the reservoir tank.

Sounds like an answer in itself.
