JBJ Nano vs 30 gallon cube

I have been debating on getting a nano tank and am trying to decide if I should go with a JBJ 28 gallon or an oceanic 30 gallon cube. Is the filtration sufficient on the JBJ or does it need upgrading? Is there heat issues with the JBJ? Any pros and cons for each would help.
Thanks

Right now fostersmith has the 28 JBJ for $299 with a free stand is why I was looking at that. And as for the 30 gallon cube I know a someone that has one for sale with a stand, it is drilled with a single overflow, a light, and return pump for $225. That is why I picked those two options.

I'd go for the 30 cube since its been drilled allowing yourself the opportunity to build you own sump is great! Plus you save a little bit of room since the filter is seperate rather than being all in one. My last thought is lights, nano cubes can be modded for almost any type of light. I'd prefer having something that I could transfer to a bigger tank if i ever got one

Just my .02

FYI, I have the Oceanic 30g cube and you can remove the top trim if you want the rimless look. I did it over 5 months ago with no problems with my tank. There are a lot of people who will say "Don't remove the trim, it's there for a reason." After removing mine I can tell you it's purely decorative, in fact it's not even one complete piece, it's 4 individual strips mitered and glued in the corners.

Having run both types of cube, both seemed to be on par with eachother as far as what types of corals can be grown. However, mine were older and not as beefed up as the newer models are. I would agree with sjkarrow though, the drilled biocube does seem like the better option. I'd kill for more water volume and extra filtration in my cubes!

I'm in the same boat, I was looking at the JBJ 28, but didn't like restricted light options.

I started down the path building my own cube with a custom 40 cube bottom drilled with a sump below. My quick little nano project was spinning out of control but I didn't like the 28 gallon rig.

Then I came across the new JBJ unit, "JBJ Nano Cube RL Rimless Biotope Aquarium - 30 Gallon".

This thing is glass, and has no hood, which I like. I got it via Amazon from Marine Depot, only $14 for shipping.

Tomorrow I'll fetch the AI Sol and an Apex controller ... and away we go!!

I was looking for basically the same JB or Oceanic and ended up with a 34g Aqua Euro Cube and could not be happier. The tank is a monster and it stands up really nice on its stand which is fact taller than the regular stands and it makes a huge difference.

This pic was taken yesterday (one day after it was setup)

I basically bought the cube from someone who had a few tanks and this had to go; so everything was well established in the tank prior to me putting it all in there. So far everything is well and loving the new environment and on Sat i will pick up a nice anemone(clowns were hosted in this already) and some hammer head coral.

Livestock include two clowns, one fox face, one cleaner wrasse, one CBJ and one cleaner shrimp.
CUC bunch of hermits and snails along with a sand dollar
Not sure of all the corals in there but it looks like a Xenia, some leather and a few mushrooms. There is also some dead coral which is coming back to life (not sure what it is, but it looks fairly cool so far).

It looks like i have a small aptasia outbreak and a peppermint shrimp will go in there over the weekend. A store near my house has a sale (two for 25$) but I only need one...

I was so excited, I even took a video... Here is the link.

Do you have a pic of it? How's the construction on it? Does it have a nice and neat silicone job on it? Thanks.

I havent done alot with it yet. I have painted the stand and had some issues with the paint so been getting that straightened out. Should have it worked out and hopefully starting to set it up in the next week or so.

have you made plans for pumps and flow yet? interested to hear what you're considering. I've got a similar project, and there are more options now than the last time I did a build. thinking maybe a tunze 6045 since I could take the flow up and down a bit...mp10 is pricey. cheaper options are the aqueon 2400 or old school MJs.....you?

For a while I have an SEIO 1000 that I am gonna use but hope to eventually get the mp10 but may go with a tunze. I am gonna watch the heat in the tank and see how it is going. If it is a problem I will definately go with an MP10 when I get the money.
