jbj nano's: waste of time?

besides the cracking i keep hearing about, any other problems you all find with nanos? specifically the 12g jbj nano. we have a 12g jbj at the store that has been setup for a little over 6 months with no problems but i keep hearing people having no luck. is this because of inexperience or are they really that difficult?

from reading on nano-reef.com I haven't seen any major issue.

it's not MH lightning but can gdo a pretty good job with no other modification.

and cracking is thing of the past afaik.

there is one 12Gat my lfs with seahorse and frags in running for the last 6 months.

12's never had a problem cracking the big problem came from the 24's of 2005 and some 6's but 12's only have been cracked in shipping so no problems there

i just ordered a modded 12DX from Nanocustoms. as far as i'm concerned, they are pretty cool. i called Chris there and he said they mod the new 06 models so that made me feel better about the cracking issues as they have apparently taken steps to fix them. i've always like the look of the nanocubes in general. i think they're really clean looking be having everything sort of self contained. i'm excited to set it up!

I got a 24 gallon jbj. My biggest problem with it.......its too small. I want a 75 gallon show tank now.

But seriously its great. I didnt have much room so it was perfect. The 24 is a nice size so I was able to get a flame angel w/o crowding him.

The problems with cracking was the older models. Also, I heard that people weren't having them in stable flat surfaces. Ideally you should have the stand.

Plus the filter system is pretty good, for what you pay. I'm able to keep alot of softies with the 72 watt pc lighting.

are you going to destroy some of the hood to get the plumbing in? i am interested because that would help our setups a lot

i put a 3/4 inch piece of styrofoam under my nano... and my 125 for that matter... that is a disaster i wouldn't be able to deal with

What im going to do is have the hole drill into the back of the tank where the grill is.


Then put a bulkhead head there 3/4" atack a 3/4 90pvc with a male barb to plugg in to the tubing.

Have flex tubing run into the 20 gal tank or the 10 gallon tank.

then i can have a refugium in there grow some cheato.

then have a Hagen 800 for a return pump to connect to the return line on the tank.

i think it will work. will keep you guys/gals informed

oh ya and have a remora pro hangin on the back of the tank some how

It was a waste of time for me because my need to upgrade (12g deluxe). I ended up taking off the hood and used a 150w HQI pendent and the single flow output wasn't enough for me so I used locline over the top of the wall to create some more flow. If I were to do it over though I'd drill the wall and put locline directly in to have a cleaner look. I could've just purchased a curved glass jebo tank and driller the back for a closed loop system which probably would've been cheaper and cleaner looking.
