Tristan seems to think either one of the following:

A) Running sulfur denitrator long term strips major trace elements out of the water column especially molybdenum.

or

B) Virus or fungus hindering macro algae growth.

Real bummer since I was hoping for the full monty with these ARIDs. No carbon, chemical media for nutrient removal and ultimately shutting down the skimmer.

Can you get a triton test done? Maybe that would at least tell you if those things are stripped out. I hope the ARID works for you, it has worked beautifully for me.

I want to see if the second go around will get these reactors going before I send out for the Triton water test.
I reseeded healthy Chaetomorpha and started to daily dose Strontium/Molybdenum along with Boron and Iron/Manganese after a large water change based on Tristan's advice.

I don't blame the reactors since they are just a mechanical vessel, apparently I cannot grow macro algae in my systems
