Jebo Skimmers

Does anyone know anything about the Jebo Protein Skimmers? I first saw them on eBay, and then looked them up on Google. Seems to be more of an "off-brand" kind of skimmer-rated pretty high, but pretty inexpensive. Just curious if anyone has had any experience w/them, or is currently operating one.... thanks for any input!

well hello... I just saw the post on Jebo Skimmer500- but if anyone still has any input, I'd appreciate it! :) I'd just never heard of them, till this week.
Thanks-

Not sure about the models....can't find a site that actually lists every model and what gallon capacity they're rated for. I know the 180 model is rated for up to 150 gallons and I've got a 240g. setup. Just kind of looking around for a bigger skimmer than what I have- I think we could skim more than what it's doing.
Thanks for the quick reply-

TJ-

Keep in mind that ALL manufacturers over rate their skimmers.
For a 240G tank you will need a JEBO 520 skimmer at the very least. That is IF you still on planning to stay with JEBO brand skimmers.

If not there are many other choices like listed below from most expensive to least

Bubble King http://www.captiveoceans.com/products-royalexclusiv.html
Deltec http://www.deltecusa.us/proteinskimmers/ap701.php
Euro Reef http://www.customaquatic.com/customaquatic/itemdetail.asp?itemid=PS-ERRC250

Reef Octopus http://www.customaquatic.com/customaquatic/itemdetail.asp?itemid=PS-PC-3000

Thanks for those links....that really puts them in order. I've looked at so many models and #'s- well you know how it is, when you're doing in-depth shopping for one item!

Thanks again- :)

I just bought a 520 off of ebay. It came with a pump, but no direct way to hook it up. The pipes that come with it are 25 mm. metric. You can file down 1 inch pvc to convert it over. I adapted a fitting and 3/4 hose fitting to the skimmer and connected it to the pump with 3/4 hose. The pump comes with a 3/4 hose barb output. I ran it in clean water and got lots of bubbles. The tank and sump it is for are still under construction. I think they are a great buy.

Thanks bassnman, that sounds like it would be a job for my husband, he takes care of the "mechanical" part of our hobby. That was the only drawback I could see to getting one- (and I was looking at them on eBay, too)- I'd rather get something that's pretty much ready to use out of the box, so I wouldn't have to have "mechanicing" done on it... but they seem to be such great buys!

thanks- that's the one I ran across later, after I posted this thread.... it made me think it was one needed "stuff" done to it, before it can actually operate. That's the only thing holding me back from buying one, I think. Looks like a good one and great price!

does anyone know about the jebo 180 or other smaller jebo skimmers? Or one that doesn't need as much modifying?
Thanks

JEBO 180 is ok for smaller tanks (75 or smaller), its design is very much like a Sea Clone although IMO it works better than the Sea Clone. You could swap out the pump and put in a needle wheel pump to increase its performance. I have a JEBO 180 whcih I modded the pump with a bio-ball to make it a needle wheel and it skims around an Aqua C Remora that a friend of mine has.

The ProPack is basically a clone of the CPR BakPak and is an ok skimmer as well. Again a needle wheel pump will help on this.

Nothing spectacular but their prices are definitely more attractive than the comparable skimmers of other brands.

I finished rigging up my JEBO 520. I used a 1 inch male to 3/4 fip adapter on the elbow they provided on the inlet. Into this I installed a 3/4 barb hose adapter. I had to sand down the adapter as 1 in. is a little larger than the 25 mm. fittings that came with the skimmer. On the outlet I used about 5 inches of the 25 mm pvc pipe and a 1 inch repair coupler. These have a vinyl collar in each end and a threaded collar. When you tighten the collar it seals the pipe. You can slide the collar up or down to adjust the water height in the skimmer. This makes a really simple DIY project, so don't let your lack of DIY experience keep you from getting a 520. Good luck.I connected the pump to the skimmer with 3/4 vinyl hose. I am putting mine on a 55 with 20 gal sump. I went big in case I decide to switch over my 125 fresh water.

I run the jebo 180 and I have no complaints at all.Got it free and i had my doubts. I pull 2 cups a week from it.It is the in sump skimmer.

Did this make the pump work better? And do you have any pic's of how you did this?

It makes the pump produce much finer bubbles hence better skimming capability. I don't have pics of this mod but it is quite easy to do. All you do is cut off all the impeller blades from the existing impeller of your pump, cut off all the pins from one side of the bio-ball (effective cutting it off in half) and trim the remaining pins so that they will fit into the pump housing. Then cut out a hole in the center of the bio-ball and glue it permanently onto the impeller with good ole super glue.
