Is anyone familar with these skimmers? They are copies of the euroreef, but does it perform just as well? They are much cheaper since the 6-1 model with sedra 5000 and needle wheel sells new for about $250. Seems to be cheaper than both the euroreef and ASM skimmers. The website rates this about 125gal. Thanks!

Although I'm not familiar with the 6-1, I have owned and used Jeff's 8-2. This was a few years back. It came with a Sen 700 pump and a regular impeller. I then contacted Jeff at Euro-Reef and ordered a replacement needle wheel and fitted it into my Sen 700 with no problems.
Worked better than the original ER8-2 because the included Sen 700 is more powerful than the Sedra 5000.
Jeff makes a good skimmer. Well crafted and not made out of cheap extruded plastic.

wondering if anyone has seen one of these skimmers in actions or has a picture of it ,,i am very interesed in one seem like the 6-1 is a rather good deal ,,looks like a euro reef and made better than a asm skimmer

I've got Jeff's 6-2 with the Sedra 5000 pump, no needlewheel. When I got it from Jeff a couple years back, I asked about upgrading to the needlewheel. He didn't try to sell me one, and in his opinion it didn't make much of a difference in the performance of the skimmer. I haven't got around to changing it out yet.
I've been pretty satisfied with the skimmer...has a impressive union for the skimmer cup..very easy to remove and requires no overhead clearance. Great if you have a tight space.

Do you run a very wet skimmate? It is pretty light in color. My friend just picked one up and I like the construction. However, I was looking at the amount and what type of bubbles it creats and it is certainly a little different from my euroreef es5-2. My skimmer pulls out really nasty crap. Does you skimmer always pull out that color of skimmate?

Hi Rich,
I do run the skimmer wet. The scum does not build up on the neck as much when I run wet. When I drop the riser tube and run drier, the skimmate is much darker and the scum much thicker and nastier. Since the cup is so easy to remove, I much rather empty it out every day or two, then suffer cleaning out the darker nastier stuff.

Oh ok, just checking. I just wanted to make sure you're maxing the skimmer out. When I was checking out what type of bubbles his skimmer was making, they seemd a little bigger, probably because it's not using the needle wheel. I'm no professional or anything, but just wanted to make sure. Also, how come your outlet is set up like that? Probably so it doesn't create noise from the water splashing? How come you didn't add the gate valve on there to improve the adjustment?

LOL, this is the way I set the tank up 7+ years ago when I was more of a noob. The setup worked and I haven't had much incentive to get a "real" acrylic sump. Actually, there are two rubbermaid tubs under my tank. There is lots of room to work under there and is easy to make changes to equipment and has lots of water volume.
You're right, the skimmer outlet is set up that way to decrease water noise and splashing. Basically, it is the plumbing from the gate valve mod without the gate valve.
I didn't find a need to to the gate valve mod because I don't find a need to adjust the skimmer much once it is set. The only time I lower the riser tub is when I do some major maintence to the tank (large water change with sump clean out). Then I reset back to the same height.
I may eventually change out the impeller to get some finer bubbles, but my water parameters are pretty good. I do tend to feed pretty heavily too. Hope that helps.

thank you very much for the picture ,,looks good ,,i have a cs5-3 right now ,,i have a 95 gallon cube wiht a 40 gallon sump ,,thinking of getting a little bit bigger skimmer,,thank you agian for taking ther time to post that for me
