Jenyphur's BioCube 32 LED Blog

Jen thank you for taking the time to post this! I hope your tank continues to thrive, from what I read on here you are definitely reading up and asking good questions so that you get it right the first time. Sorry you lost the goby! But you really don't have a way of knowing what the little fish went through before it arrived in your tank. I am wondering what you are feeding the fishes and corals? Flakes, pellets, frozen, homemade, some combination of these? Also can you list the equipment you are using (heater, pump, anything else added/not stock with the tank)? I'm the owner of a hand-me-down 120 FOWLR and a few soft corals, but your post has made me think about trying to duplicate your success with the Biocube.

I hate overly white lights. Just bought the 32 biocube myself, your review of it helped. Thanks. I will glue this light bar to the top. Mine will be a seahorse tank so not worried about light needs for anything more than softies and macro algae.

This was only 17 btw and if its crap it goes on a quarantine tank or the trash and I shrug.

Hmmmmmm.....well there's that then. :( i think I need to just bite the bullet and upgrade.

Just remove the hood. Its worked out well for us for the last few months. Granted everything in our tank is in a holding pattern because of dinos at the moment.

A quick update...I took the hood off and bought the AI Prime HD...LOVE IT.

What kind of wavemaker do you have on the right? I'm setting up a 5.5 gallon and trying to decide on a good adjustable wavemaker.

I bought the cheapie one the Jebao PP4:

It works well, almost too good honestly, I wish I could make it go a little softer. I have pretty fine sand and it blows it around pretty good. I actually have it pointed at the front of the tank glass to bounce off and absorb some of it.

Glad you got the lights sorted out! How much did that setup run you? I ended up with the Steve's and am happy with it so far :)

Looks good
You can also remove the black plastic on top of the glass to get that clean look.

There's got to be a few threads on it

Yes, definitely more evap but I have an ATO so not much of a big deal really. I have the lights at 50% acclimation. So far everything looks REALLY good (except the goni).

I bought the AI Prime HD from my local fish store Studio Blue. Also got the mount there but ended up buying a different one that I like better.

Here's the BAD news. I am sad to report that I had one of my clowns jump from the tank last night. :( I am heartbroken...Spike (and Molly) were my first fish. Ugh. I have heard from many people that they have never had issues with fish jumping.

They always sleep near the top so I guess something scared him into jumping. Breaks my little heart.

Now I"m not sure what to do. Is Molly going to be ok? Should I get her another one? I would love to get one that is already hosting an anemone and add both to my tank but not sure if this is a good idea.

Any suggestions?

Oh no, that's so sad... I'm sorry to hear this. I lost my male too and was worried about my female as well. I bought a juvenile and they have been fine together over the last month. Just make sure he (will be a he) is much much smaller and they should eventually bond :)

As far as hosting, before you put the clown and the anemone in put the anemone in a bucket and place the clown right in the anemone and it should get all cozy

Just an update....

Just an update....

It's been awhile...so I figured it's a good time to update. Have had some new things added and sadly a few tragedies. So let's get the sad ones out of the way...

I lost my lawnmower blenny "Benny". I think he might have starved to death..I tried EVERYTHING but he always looked skinny. I tried Nori, garlic soaked, pellets, etc. He only liked the algae and did a great job. One day I found half of him in the clutches of 'Crusher', my too big emerald crab that is going back to the LFS as soon as I can catch him. He's HUGE.

A few corals that I lost...the purple gonipora that I had no business getting int he first place. I think it also killed the small torch and just recently the glorious pink goniopora that was doing sooooo GREAT in my tank for months. :(

My duncan has quadrupled in size....what was once a broken little frag is now a 4 headed colony and looking great.

My BTA which I thought was going to die because it turned white and basically hid for about a month after I had it for a month, has found a fantastic new 'home' and is looking all nice and pink/rose again. I am so happy. My one and only clown still has no clue or interest.

My one torch that I have had from the beginning that had 3 heads and then 2 head died, I kept it hoping the 1 head would recover. It sure did. It's huge and beautiful.

My newest guy is the "Bob" the Blue Spot Jawfish. I bought him about 6 weeks ago but couldn't bring him home because I took the hood off and have been waiting on a custom made one. Well I finally got it this weekend and Bob came home. I love him. I'll take some pics when he's settled in.

Everyone else is doing great. I love this tank. The algae is at a minimum and everything seems to be doing good/great (depending on the day).
