Jetskim 150

How do you rate this skimmer? I have about 200 gallons of water volume, and I'm interested in this skimmer. It says that it is rated for 270 gallons, but I'm always weary of skimmer ratings. Would the jetskim 200 be a better bet? Also, is the only way to remove and clean the cup by removing the 4 thumbscrews. I clean my skimmer cup every two days, and this could get annoying if it were the case.

Hi Mark,

We have been fairly impressed with the Jetskim 200 we have been running at the shop here so far. I think the ratings on the skimmers are probably a little high however. For your system I would run a Jetskim 200, rather than the 150.

Our 200 is setup right by a CS8-2 and the Jetskim has been pulling out more than the Euro. The 200 is right inbetween a 8-2 and 8-3 as far as efficiency goes.

The cups lift right off of the skimmers, so they pull on and off with ease. The top flange will come off via the wing nuts if you want to completely break the system down.

Thanks Jeremy,

I got a little caught up with work and the holidays, and totally forgot about this post. I do have some further questions.

How much clearance does the jetskim 200 skimmer need to remove the cup? The internal height of my stand is 28" and I noticed the skimmer is 27.5" tall.

$630 bucks is a lot for a skimmer. How do you rate this skimmer to others in this price range?

Thanks again for running such a great online operation.:) I recommend you guys to everyone jumping into the hobby.

Also, how quiet is the skimmer?

Hi Mark,

The cup will take about 1" - 1.5" to remove it, so it doesnt sound like it will squeeze into your system. In that situation I would probably take a look at going with the EuroReef. The 8-2 is actually marked WAY down right now, $439, so you might want to jump on that!

Thanks,
Jeremy

Bummer,

I hear great things about schuran. I have a 24" Geo needlewheel which has been good to me. But I was hoping to use that on a prop tank and get something a little stronger for the display.

Not to highjack this thread, but I'm looking at either the Schuran Jetskim 150, or the ER CS8-2.

I have 25" of clearance inside my stand, so I believe the ER will fit with enough room to remove the cup, plus, if I'm not mistaken, the ER has a drain fitting. The Schuran doesn't look like it has a drain, but it's only about 21" high so it should fit with enough space to remove the collection cup (maybe you can confirm these assumptions. . .).

Putting aside the cost issue, which unit will provide the best performance? Either one will be oversized for my 100 gal, but that's my intent. . .

Also, are they both currently in stock?

Thanks,

Bob
