Hi all,

At planning stage of my new 250G SPS tank. 200 x 70 x 70 cm.
Going to be a built-in with full height cabinet. Front viewable.

Target commissioning in mid Aug so have time now to tweak and enhance design.
Sincerely welcome your suggestions as SPS experience only 8 months.

Hi Jetski.

From the drawings alone I do not like the way horizontal and vertical lines appear in the front view. I'd rather go with vertical ones on top and bottom panels. You can to that and still open the full top side upwards. It would be even better if you kept those seems as few as possible.

Been thinking hard about what you said and have also toyed with some ideas on drawing board. Will keep these thoughts and hope they develop in the next week or so.

In anycase would also ask my carpenter to minimise the appearance of the lines when cabinets are all closed so that they do not distract attention from the main event.

Some updates:
- increasing width from 70 to 80cm
- adding a RO unit directly connected to the top-up tank. Need to devise a flood-proof plan.

Everything looks pretty good. As for a flood-proof plan have you looked at either beananimal or herbie overflow designs? That would probably be a good first place to start. As for fool-proofing the sump area... The most obvious (though possibly most annoying) would be to drill an emergency drain hole a few inches from the top. This could potentially having a detrimental effect on your salinity though. I would definitely look at float switches (and possibly multiple for redundancy). Hope this helps.

Thanks. I have a 1' by 4' opening on the back of cabinet. Actually a big hole that leads to my backyard. Used to be a glass panel but had it removed. Also install an exhaust fan there to expel hot air.

Temp inside the cabinet suprisingly cool considering 4x250W.
 
That looks absolutely stunning, how the cabinetry and the tank fits in with the rest of the room is awesome.

Talking about flooding....actually had a mini-flood couple of weeks ago. Woke up at 3am and was drying the dining room floor using a towel. Took about an hour. Luckily no damage done to my rug at sofa area. Water was just inches away from it.

Cause was I forgot to turn off the tap connected to RO/DI connected to the top-up reservoir... Drain hole idea is excellent but hard to implement now.

Perhaps I will install a float switch in the top-up reservoir connected to an alarm. i.e. if water level in top-up tank becomes too high, sound the siren!
 
Your tank looks really good and in tune with the rest of the house.
Now it's just to sit and enjoy the mad coral growth for a few years.
