JOSE CASAS...366gal..RIMLESS TANK!!

My problem is that I can't fit the size tank that I want in my living room and all the equipment and trying to decide if I should just put it in my garage and just spend time there enjoying...I know one day I will have my 538g tank, just not sure if I should pull the trigger now or wait a while.

You already have a big tank but you know mine is in the garage. I would rather have it there becaus of my daughter. I injoy it in peace and no one bother me . Aventually it will be inside if I can get it through the door but for now the garage it is.

Thanks Mark, I think the spectra will be fine as Gregg has it in his 30'' and has it suspened 10''-12'' and says will dif do 42'' and my other friend Ken Dingdong has a 48'' 2 250w in a 30'' deep about 12'' from the waterline and can see it will be plenty esp if I raise it more and run the 400w. Yea plan to have less light for the lps but the plans is to make the aqua scape semi low and wide open so the corals have room to grow and put the lps low light corals underneath them.

Hi Jose-

Looking forward to following your build!

As for your lighting, it will be cutting it close but I think you will be fine. I have a 250w Spectra over my 40" wide and the intensity starts to fall off steeply the last few inches in the back. Part of this is because the rockwork in back is maybe 6-8" from the top. 400w should provide more intensity but not much more spread. FWIW mine is probably 16" above my tank. This seems to work best as I get proper spread and it keeps the fixture out of 'the splash zone'.

Agent ..... what is the thickness you used under the tank? Is it birch 3/4? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jose-

Are you referring to the stand facade? It is laminated hardwood ply. It is, indeed, 3/4" and probably birch. Since Edward (Invincible569) had it built, you might want to ask him.

Thanks Agent I will pm and ask him.

What size chiller are you using? Your input will really help me determine what size I am gonna need. Also how many gallons does ur sump hold thanks again for ur help.

I have a 1/2 HP chiller on the system but I can't remember the last time it turned on. This time of the year the tank stays at around 75-78 no problem. I was surprised by this because my last tank, which was a 225, I had a hard time keeping cool. Not having a canopy has made a huge difference. I evaporate about 9 liters a day!

My sump will hold ~125 gallons. Not sure what it actually has in it under normal running conditions as it has the rubble tower and fuge compartments.

Agent thanks, I was leaning towards a 1/2 hp. Yea the open top runs cooler so I think the chiller wont be on very often where I live. What about the heater? How many watts are you currently using? How many people did it take to lift thie beast onto the stand? Again thanks for all the input.

Hey Jose I just stumbled onto this thread, the tank sounds so awesome! looks like your gonna have plenty of room to grow a gorgeous chalice garden now..sweet gonna love to follow this!

I have an 800 watt heater but would have preferred 1000.

If I remember correctly, I think we had about 6 people lifting. We used suction cups which was a must. Furniture dollies also came in handy! Even with all this, it was a major PITA to move.

Dang Jose, 11 pages and still no tank? I think thats an RC record!

Either way, Im sure the wait will pay off when it does come :D

i sure hope you get the tank on friday or saturday because it will work out perfectly since i will be at tom's shop one of those two days picking up my new lumenmax elites and radium bulbs that I ordered yesterday ;)
